I worked with this guy very briefly. He would wake up at 5 am just to arrive at the school by 7:30 AM. I asked why he just didn't take the SkyTrain and MRT because it was more direct and easier.

He told me he didn't want to spend the money because he had a baby on the way.

The job was paying 32k a month and he was talking about how it was a big step up because he was working for 30k at one time. Myself, I never feel okay unless I'm in there for at least 35k. I have never really stuck around and worked for less.

He's a white guy from America. I don't understand why he settles. He talked about teaching in Japan but had a defeatest attitude because of the amount of job views the positions got on GaijinPot. Myself, I don't care I will apply if it's a step up.

I don't think ill of the guy. He seems pretty decent. But it depresses me to see this. I think about it quite often. I wonder if he ever had a job where they paid him at least 35k baht.

You have never mentioned money as a reason for you "doing a runner, you just do not seem capable of sticking at a job.

I'm not good at math but wouldn't 60,000 be a 100% increase?

No it is the difference between 28,000 and 30,000 i.e. 2,000 and then the extra jump from 30,000 to 32,000 an extra 2,000 so a 100% jump from the original 28,000

Why don't you just mind your own, sometimes really weird business?

Myself....I couldn't get by on less than 75k.....35k seems like you never get aheadblink.png

Indeed. I honestly can't imagine it. It must be horrid.

Not to mention utterly soul destroying. :(

Pointless; counter-pointless. A student once told me her father got up at 2:40 to go downtown. He must have not wanted to be late, either.

That's actually 8:40.

How much do teachers get paid in Khon Kaen??

Couldn't you just google it? I'm afraid that you're such a lazy teacher that the kids fall asleep when you enter the room.

Why can't you just leave the dude to be a dude? A dude with his own brain. Look in a mirror and please tell me what you see.

I can only dream of one day, ascending the professional ladder to achieve the princely sum of 35,000 Baht/month.

Woo Hoo!

Please tell me where the OP plies his trade.

I wouldn't wish any child of my acquaintance to be instructed by someone who regards "This Dude" as a suitable headline for a thread an an educational forum.

Live and let live.

Why the blazes you felt the need to post this is beyond me.

Like another member has posted mind your own business and let others get on with their lives.

Just an observation as I have nothing to do with teaching at all but why would anyone who considered themselves to be a good teacher work for 30k or there about? That amount of money goes from being barely enough to live on to way below enough

I guess it's okay for older guys that have small 60-70k baht pensions.

Sometimes, if you work for a well organized school your immigration paperwork will be processed more efficiently and they (School) will deal with those interesting immigration official.

Sometimes, they want just something to do.. watching the grass grow has its limitation.

Sometimes, they still want to help out.

Sometimes, they want to get away from the house and the Thai wife.

Sometimes, they just want to be around people and really want something to do.

Sometimes, this is cheaper than spending your money on drinking, P tang, and whatever.
