NRSA discusses reforms for IP

BANGKOK, 27 June 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) has discussed economic reforms focusing on intellectual property (IP).

The NRSA committee on economic reforms has submitted a report to the main assembly on reforms to the intellectual property system, saying that changes are needed in the handling of IP in the interest of economic innovation and development. It noted that the coming wave of economic changes is based on creativity, making handling IP properly a major issue.

The report called for agencies protecting IP rights to be revamped for greater efficacy and for support for the investment and expansion in IP based industries. It pointed to government policy calling for resources and manufacturing to be bolstered by knowledge, technology and research to add value and competitive edge to Thailand.

Most in the NRSA agreed with the points of the report, saying it would support Thailand’s economic development.

I don't want to be cynical, really I don't, but I don't know if I can take seriously Thais saying they want to protect intellectual property rights. And I can't imagine they're saeriously only thinking of Thai IPR. That would just be too bizarre.

I'm having a "what's wrong with this picture" moment really...

Job well done!

What's next on the agenda?

More committees to be formed, do something and report on the obvious.
