Great beetle. I sent this link to a relative who's an entomologist and his reply was:

This beetle is a member of the Buprestidae family. These are Jewel beetles and the brightly coloured shiny ones were used by Egyptians as jewellery.
I think this particular specimen might belong to the genus Chalcophora. Bupresidae are wood boring beetles.
The one in the photo seems similar to a tropical cousin in australaisa (see below) .

Wow thank you and great job entomologist relative, much thanks. Now looking at other members of the family on google, for sure your person is correct. Jewel beetle.

This beetle was incredible. The following picture does not do it justice (I was doing some work on the mountain and in a rush), but it had incredible iridescent colors on it's sides. Amazing Thailand.
