Two men killed by suspected militants in Yala

YALA: Two men who used to work with the police were killed in a bomb explosion and gunfires by suspected militants in Yala’s Bannang Sata district Sunday morning.

The two victims were identified as Mahama Yuding and Assuwan Yusoh who used to work for the late Pol Col Sompien Aeksomya, alias Ja Pien, former superintendent of Bannang Sata district police, who was killed in a bomb explosion several years ago.

Police said that the two men were riding on a motorcycle heading for home from a masjid. As they were approaching a bridge, suspected militants who had laid in waiting nearby detonated a 10-kg improvised explosive device which was made of a fire extinguisher stuffed with explosives and iron spikes with a wire linked to a detonator.

The two men were thrown out of the motorbike by the force of the blast and the suspected militants opened up at them with their assault rifles, killing both of them at the scene.
