BANGKOK: -- Pathum Thani provincial police will press ahead with taking legal actions against followers of Wat Dhammakaya for allegedly obstructing officials of the Department of Special Investigation in their attempt to arrest Phra Dhammachayo on June 16.

Pol Maj-Gen Thavorn Khaosa-ard, commander of Pathum Thani provincial police, told the media on Tuesday that legal actions against some Wat Dhamakaya’s followers was in response to a complaint filed by DSI officials with Klong Luang district police after they were prevented from getting into the temple in search of the embattled abbot.

He disclosed that Klong Luang district police had prepared nine cases against the temple’s followers for obstructing the DSI officials. The cases are divided into three offences: obstruction of public route; possession of military material i.e. the razor-sharp barbed wire and illegal public gathering to obstruct officials in their performance of duty.

The Pathum Thani provincial police chief also warned temple’s followers and lay supporters not to obstruct DSI officials the next time they enter the temple to look for Phra Dhammachayo who is believed to hole up in the temple.

Lovely photo of the 4 stooges.

This whole case is farcical.

Just arrest the Abbot and be done with it.

No one is above the law, but too many people here think they are.

So what happens if the wanted followers take refuge in the temple and refuse to surrender themselves ? Sound familiar ?

Will the BIB write to them asking they give themselves up, pretty please or just more talking ? No immediate arrest of the followers if they are outside the temple and it could have been done quickly and perhaps without much drama, NO but there's the usual advance warning of what's supposed to happen next. Of course that doesn't mean anything will happen or if there's any real intention of implementation.

All followers have been warned not to obstruct the DSI next time they enter the temple looking for the abbot but the DSI haven't shown much inclination to be proactive in this case and the issue has conveniently slipped from the headlines until now.

From the reports i saw and photos published it did not even look like the DSI officials even tried to enter.

Looked like they arrived, did a few wai's had a little gossip and were safely back in their office by mid morning.

Did they even try and enter to be able to be blocked and press charges?

Arrest the abbot then shut down the other big cult which is insulted by the abbot's use of it's patented brainwashing techniques..

Arrest warrant for the abbot without bail seems the logical solution?

a logical solution requires a thought process, planning and execution, and thus it has become a complicated issue, alas.

This whole idea of worshiping people is wrong. Dhammakaya is a cult and Thailand should only have one cult. Competition for the minds and love of the people is just wrong. Arrest the abbot. End the competition and piracy of cult techniques.

although I would like nothing more than the arrest of this monk, he is evidently using large sums of money to protect himself, the very same money that was stolen from the real victims in this cluster F, this could easily turn into a bloodbath, I have absolutly no doubt that there are weapons on the temple grounds and people willing to use them, some would say just go in with a riot squad and water cannon but I suspect this could easily turn into another 2010, I am sure there are certain divisive people and organisations planning for exactly that outcome.

Not sure what the answer is, it is a risky situation and knowing Thailand and how stuff happens here and those with ill intent that could be behind it....caution is probably the best approach for now

Highly speculative rant, Smedders. Also highly dubious unless there is evidence.

Which you don't have or you would have quoted it.

Using religion to launder money and build wealth is wrong. Government have a duty to protect the weak minded from cults like this.

"Using religion to launder money and build wealth is wrong."

Quite so, just ask the Pope.wai.gif

So. No need for actual evidence then?

Santi Asoke Buddhist cult run by former general Chamlong Srimuang should also be investigated. They were a big political force in the overthrow of theThaksin government. They have properties around Thailand too. Not as big but worth a look.
