The court also ordered the guarantor pay 500,000 baht in fine for Kwanchai’s absence from the court to hear the verdict.Kwanchai’s wife, Mrs Arporn Sarakham, earlier told the media that she didn’t know where the former red-shirt leader was but he would not serve the jailterm until full democracy is restored in Thailand.Kwanchai was accused of behind the assaults of members of the People’s Alliance for Democracy by red-shirt supporters at Nongprachak Silpakhom park in Udon Thani several years ago.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/kwanchai-emerges-serve-jailterm-udon-thani/ -- Thai PBS 2016-07-

scorecard
....a photo opp....??? ....are we missing something here....??? The photo op reeks of the national disgrace that is called the RTP and how there is different treatment for different folks and often depends on the color of your politics. I worked with a well educated loud mouth Thai lady during the era of 'burn down Bkk', she bragged every day about how her high ranking policeman father was one of the main red shirt leaders in Udon. And she told lots of stories of how easy it is to cover up vote buying and about intimidating the locals... NongKhaiKid
looks like he is welcome like a good friend and he smiles like he is going to holidays - may be he is? If he's to do his time in Udon Thani it's unlikely to be that much of a hardship as he's very well connected and no doubt will get a lot of privileges etc. He should be moved somewhere his red shirt mates can't look after him and he'll have to do something approaching real time. If the crime has been done in Udon Thani he will be jailed in an Udon Thani jail but it is possible to put him into the Sawang jail around 70km away. You are making an assumption that might not be warranted. If you remember back to the extermination attempt, it turned out the house/land he was occupying had been bought with donations and then registered in his wife's(?) name, and there was quite a bit of bad feeling about that in the area.
