EC engages in campaigns to promote accurate understanding of upcoming public referendum

BANGKOK, 8 July 2016 (NNT) – The Election Commission has continued its various campaigns to promote an accurate understanding of the upcoming public referendum on a draft of the new charter.

Vice Chairman of Thailand's Election Commission Apichart Sukhagganond, has officially opened a forum to promote an accurate understanding of the proposed new Constitution and delivered a special lecture, which was entitled “What will people and communities get from the draft Constitution and the public referendum” in Saraburi Province.

The event was jointly organized by the EC and community organizations from nine provinces in Central Thailand: Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Lopburi, Singburi, Angthong, Suphanburi, Chainat, Uthai Thani and Nakhon Sawan.

A total of 220 members of many organizations took part in the event.

Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Pravich Rattanapian has visited Nakhon Si Thammarat to meet with volunteer military students in order to make sure they understand how the referendum process will be on August 7.

The training of these young volunteers was also intended to help them efficiently engage in the public relations campaign to help voters recognize the significance of their votes.

In addition to the military students, military trainers and officers in the province also jointed the session, resulting in a total of 250 participants.

At the same time, the Trat Election Commission office organized a project to help military students understand the public referendum process. 157 participants who are students and local district officials attended.

So explaining What will people and communities get from the draft Constitution" is not considered as campaigning for yes. Hmmmmm. ...

It can be summerised in a few words.

You can vote however you wish, we dont care. Whatever the result, the military are staying in power. You can decide whether you vote for us to stay or if you vote incorrectly, whether we decide to stay.

Democracy, military style!

And the uniformed Prayut Youth will be out spreading the good word, totally impartially of course and nothing should be read into the fact they will just happen to be in military uniform.

New song for Fridays, and every other day?

"You'll do it my way"

"Accurate understanding"

Don't know if I should laugh or cry now.

I assume people with "inaccurate understanding" will face boot-camp attitude correction until they get it right.

What a great job they are doing to get a massive 1% of the "out of home province" voters to register by the deadline.

It is almost as if the population have been switching the TV off on Friday evenings, and somehow believe their vote on this is irrelevant.

Please provide the wording of the referendum.

Please provide the wording of the referendum.

A graduate businessman in his mid thirties said to me that he has no idea what to vote because he has seen no information and he and his friends have decided not to ask questions or discuss it in any way because of the restriction on discussion. Looks like we can expect a true model of democracy!

They will certainly get a bad case of verbal diarrhea. That you can count on.

Dearie me, no, just like when L'Oréal and Sunsilk go on TV during the breaks to give the public a correct understanding of their products...

The usual.

Mind you looking at the bewilderment in the UK after the brexit referendum one can but wonder what chance Thailand has to make people understand.

The draft charter has been available since end of March this year and still people complaining they didn't see it. Plus the question how many would actually read it as historically that number is close to 0% it would seem. Sometimes I think only TVF foreigners read the Thai charter.
