Suprisingly, local Thai Consulate doesn't seem to know, after navagating the Thai Embassy IVR for weeks on end hoping to speak with a Human Being - Got connected, only spoke Thai ( I can only speak Thai get by), quickly passed the phone to wifey who came away from the conversation very disgruntled about the persons atittude and alas, none the wiser. Now I did post the same question a while ago but being busy, no time to follow up the post.

Anyway - Thai wifes 5 year Thai passport expired in August, she wants to renew/extend it, if possible WITHOUT a trip to the Thai Embassy in London. Is this possible by post? If so, anybody know the correct correspondence address/details? I'm sure somebody on the forum knows whats what and can give me some guidance, I hear Scouser is the man in the know - Hope I've given enough info - It's her first Thai passport that's expired btw.

Thanx in advance for advice :o

Thai embassy in london will extend the existing passport. My wife had hers done this way only a few months ago. They were very helpful and everything was done by recorded delivery.Cheaper and easier than getting a new passport -all they do is put an extension stamp in the old passport.

Although the RTE will extend an unexpired non-biometric passport, I'm not certain if they can extend an expired passport. She may have to get a new biometric e-passport, in person. Let us know what happens.

As all Thai passports after July 2010* will have to be biometric, if they do extend it they will only do so up to this date, after which she will have to apply for a biometric one. If she has already had an extension then they wont extend it again and she will need to apply for a biometric one.

If applying for a biometric passport they will need to take her photograph and fingerprints so she will need to attend in person. If extending an existing passport she can do it by post.

*I think, from memory, that this is the date, but I may be slightly out. The RTE website should have the exact date.
