Criminal records check for work visa renewal

Featured Replies

Last year i was a bit surprised to have to do a rather silly "criminal records check" as part of my visa renewal by the Chaeng Wattana.

I-- literally-- had to go to one of the British polices' websites, type my name into the search function and print off the result. obviously, owing to the strict privacy and data protection laws of the UK, even if I was a wanted mass murderer nothing would have turned up to this type of search.

Has anyone British had this requirement for their work visa? I'm hoping it's abandoned.

I don't work with children so there's no special, obvious reason for a check. But my job is 'sensitive' and it would be unsurprising for me to be slightly bullied by the Thai State.

I would expect that to one time requirement. Your criminal record would unlikely change if you were not in the UK.

I have seen no reports of anybody needing to have one done. Even for teachers they only need to have one done for here to get new non-b visas at the nearby embassies and consulate.

I recently renewed my extension of stay based on a business visa at Chaeng Wattana.

No need for a criminal record check. To be fair though my job is quite mundane.
