BANGKOK: - The deputy abbot of Wat Dhammakaya, Phra Ratchapawanajarn or Phra Thattachivo, has been named acting abbot of the temple replacing Phra Dhammachayo effective as of July 1.

The appointment of the acting abbot was ordered by Phra Khru Vichit-arpornkorn, the chief monk of Tambon Klong Si, Klong Luang district of Pathum Thani on June 24 but it was only announced on Saturday by the National Buddhism Office.

The order cited Phra Dhammachayo’s sickness from diabetes, blood vessel clog on the left leg and allergy requiring medical treatment for the need of a replacement.

The 75-year old acting abbot has been in the monkhood for 44 years.

Lets hope Phra Thattachivo, the 75-year old acting abbot, who has been in the monk hood for 44 years, has learned more about true Buddhism than his apparently ailing brother in saffron, Phra Dhammachayo.

Phra Thattachivo has been a monk for 44 years, lets hope he understands the true meanings of Buddism better than his predecessor.

Doubtful. Pretty much all Buddhism in Thailand is corrupt. They just don't put the big temple abbots in BKK in jail. Any abbot or monk in Thailand can be called out for corruption or ignorance of the Buddhas beliefs in my view. But Thai Buddhism isn't different than Christianity or Islam because they all are corrupted. As I said in the past this is just another story of one group taking power over others while claiming they are the true Buddhists (and patriots). It's a Thai thing lately as we all know.

Luckily for him these ailments are counterbalanced by his traits such as memory loss,.greed, hubris, cowardice, denial...all par for the course for a con artist or politician.

....in other words...business as usual.....

...the objection obviously was....... 'a disruption of their revenue stream'.....

Saw 3 Monks at Suvanabhumi last week with large smart phones and one had a flash looking digital camera. 3 women turned up grovelling on the ground. They went to Eva Air and while the Monks stood back, the women checked them into Diamond/Gold Class. I guess they need to spend the donations on something. No cattle class for Monks!!

I saw four monks today so far. One was cutting grass on the side of the road near a temple and the other three were at the shopping mall. One of them was waiting at majorcineplex. It's easier to find Thai monks in shopping malls I think.

Thais are by default - rule breakers... they deviate and take the path of least resistance every opportunity you give them - why?

because happiness trumps everything...

How wrong can you be... The 'joy'/'satisfaction' (you call happiness, some signs of positive brain activity are compulsory for) for silly, primary, low-life, have-not, know-nothing, good-for-nothing, do-nothing-good, ill-tempered, hot-blooded, bad-to-the-bone, a..e-scratchers, all over the world(!), mind you, is to HURTH any person not being a member of their sad bunch, as kind of a bitter revenge. The very high number of members of one or several of the categories listed before among the local population making it, indeed a lot more of a problem here...
