webfact
Interior Minister prepares road safety ahead of Buddhist LentBANGKOK, 12 July 2016 (NNT) – The Minister of Interior has planned to propose a new road safety law to the Cabinet while calling for more police checkpoints during long holidays.Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda has chaired the fourth meeting of the Road Safety Commission for 2016 to follow up on amendments to existing laws for safety on roadways. The meeting focused on 5 areas of road safety, namely; driving under the influence, speeding, driving without a license, accidents and seatbelt wearing. The gathering also sought to set new safety measures for the upcoming Buddhist Lent period.Gen Anupong remarked that as this week has a long holiday many citizens will likely travel back to their hometowns or for leisure, increasing the likelihood of road accidents. Acknowledging the prime minister’s calls for care of the public, the minister said he has ordered all Interior Ministry agencies to work against traffic accidents during the holiday by focusing on preventive measures. He has asked that more checkpoints be set up along roads so that more inspections can be carried out of drivers to ensure their safety. -- NNT 2016-07-

trainman34014
No new laws needed; just implement the existing ones and get the Police to do their job properly. No chance of course !

CarolJadzia
More Enforcement? Good! More evidence that you cannot enforce safety on the system. Maybe they will take note when this continues to fail to address the situation as all the previous attempts have? Maybe? No good increasing the rules when the people do not understand the basic rules to start with. What's needed is better training, more understanding of how to share the roads together. More carrot, less stick!
