Popular Post JayBird
Not much new here to report, but for those interested: Arrived at 08:25, found a line snaking around the lobby twice At 08:30 the doors opened and we all orderly moved in. There were two immigration officers making sure the line stayed correct and no one cutted in (saw someone try but the officer guided them to the end where they were unhappy). After getting through the first doors had to line up to get through the 'back' door. This was a bit more disorderly (some would skip the line and some would not). From what I could tell, the line skippers were going to the 'Left' side, versus those who wanted a ticket and go to the 'Right' side. Once through I saw immigration officer dividing us up into individual ticket queues Got the ticket at 08:45 Was also handed the new form to fill in asking for additional details. About 15 minutes later was called in to submit the forms. The immigration officer was very kind and polite and smiled as he talked. No issues at all during processing. Waited 5 minutes to pay money. Another 15 minutes later had the passport back and left. All in all, I think everything was done in less than an hour. Very efficient, no problems, everyone nice. Note: I did have an METV visa (they always nod happily when they see the M type visa). About the added form: They *DO* want you to fill it in (the immigration officer even gave me one not realizing I already had one filled in). I know there are discussion topics on it but I think this one is not really a big deal for the following reasons: 1) He *ONLY* cared that the Passport number and Phone number appears on the form (he asked for those saw them, was happy). He didn't care about anything else. 2) It is a 'redundant' form (only stuff you put in the first form need to re-appear on the second form). Your address, passport number, phone number, name. So nothing new, just a redundant form of data collection. 3) The bank information is not even mentioned by the officer nor needed -- I think this is only needed for those who are applying for a visa where they already need to supply this information, so no need to discuss this as a pain point. 4) The 'social' information is not what I first thought it was about. They are asking for your Facebook, Line and E-mail. I don't know about facebook (I don't use it), but the other two are just means of being able to contact you. I know I prefer when anyone who wants to reach me does so by e-mail (rather than phone), and all the government agencies have my e-mail address, so this is nothing bad or meant as a means of tracking you. For what it's worth, I heard from thais that the Thai police are saying: What is the point of this form? You want more work for us? we already have this information. It's pointless. Anywho, nothing bad on the form and takes 1 minute to fill in and reveals *nothing* you have not already revealed. The rest of the experience was great. They have a new coffee/tea machine in the waiting area -- but no starbucks.

Maestro
News flash. Visas can't be extended. An extension of stay, which the website of the Immigration Bureau calls a visa (see here), can be extended.
