Disconnect seat weight sensors

Featured Replies

I disconnected the seat weight sensors on my Subaru xv. It had a very loud alarm that would go off if you didn't buckle your seat belt after a certain speed.

It was annoying but I am wondering if it could affect the airbag deployment? There's no airbag light on the dash comes on, only the chime. I think it's just a "put you're seat belt on" reminder.

If people are wondering I always buckle my seat belt and make passengers do likewise. I just have a habit of buckling it as I take off as I leave home.

maybe the alarm speed can be adjusted?

Dont worry about it.....if your to fat for the seat belts your way better off not wearing them....more comfortable. And beneifits society as a whole.....keeps our premiums down.

Just get a seat belt buckle extender (overrides all such nonsense):

It's not because I'm fat! There are sensors in the seat to detect when someone's sitting in it. It detects any weight on the seat and sets a chime off, even a shopping bag! I don't meet a loud chime reminding me to put my seat belt on, I like to wear it. I'm just wondering if its tied in with the airbags and they might not deploy if it doesn't detect any weight on the seat.

some Brands and Models require 2 Seat Belt Extenders, for the situation where both seats are sensored

I think it would be odd for an airbag to only deply if there is weight on the seat.

Googling it, some cars get an airbag malfunction light when disconnecting the seat but my car it's just a chime so I think it's ok.

Well don't turn the key on,until you have buckled up,then move off.
