Visa-exempt entry at mae sot?

Featured Replies

So I'm a US citizen, have been in myanmar for almost 4 weeks, planning to reenter Thailand at mae sot (from myawaddy). I did not get a new thai visa, so was just planning on getting stamped in for 30 days ("visa exemption"). I thought this wouldn't be a problem, but just wanted to double check that visa-exempt entries are given at mae sot.

Since you have been in Myanmar for 4 weeks you will be able to get a visa exempt entry.

If you were just doing a border hop from here it would not be allowed,

Update: got stamped in for 30 days no problem, despite numerous previous visas (but only 1 previous exemption).

Hi Ubon Joe, I am just up in Tak visiting my Girlfriends family and today they want to go cross the Mae Sot border for a few hours and show her mum around. I am an O&G worker so I only ever come in on Visa Exempt with my passport basically filled with Thai stamps and I get questioned basically every 2nd or 3rd entry at Swampy. I only have 1 more week left on my visa exemption. Just wondering if you think it would be wise for me to wait for them at mae sot while they cross as I don't want drama coming back in even though the extra stamp would be handy as I have extra time off work?

You would not even be allowed to pass through Thai immigration. They would turn you away since they would not allow you to re-enter the country to get a visa exempt entry. If you had a visa for Myanmar they would allow you to cross since you  could stay a few days in Myanmar.

Wait in Mae Sot it is then, Know any bars there? ???

Hi, piggybacking on this thread.

Now that Phu Nam Ron, near Kanchanaburi, are requiring a Burmese Visa to enter Burma I'd like to do my 90 day border hop at Mae Sot. I have a multi entry non-o. After reading about the new Burmese e-visa I was wondering if a quick visa free border hop is still possible at Mae Sot/Myawaddy? Any recent experiences?

Thanks

As far as I know there are no changes at Mae Sot. You can still get a border pass for Myanmar.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.
