Cambodia’s pay television sector is set to become even more crowded with the entry of Malaysia-based internet TV network iFlix, a regional competitor to global US giant Netflix. Peggy Lee, head of public relations and communications for iFlix confirmed that the company will enter both the Cambodia market and neighboring Vietnam.

“Vietnam and Cambodia are key markets in Southeast Asia that we are currently looking at,” she said. But Ms. Lee added she could not give further details about the timing of iFlix’s entry into Cambodia.

Last month, the company’s Australian CEO Mark Britt predicted a late 2016 entry into the Vietnamese market, which could be an indicator of the timing regarding Cambodia, according to market observers. The video-on-demand service was founded last year by Patrick Grove, CEO of Malaysia-based Catcha Group, Mark Britt and Evolution Media Capital, a merchant bank focused on media, sports, and entertainment. iFlix has raised over $30 million to commit itself to providing international TV and films to the region in a service to rival NetFlix.
