Aussie bicyclist fined over reckless Doi Suthep ride

Yes, a stupid man, and a stupid collection of clowns, but on the scale of stupidity, not severe when compared to the large number of farangs and Thais who drive whilst drunk, or speed, or who have poorly maintained vehicles or pass inappropriately etc.

I believe much of the rage is fueled by resentment and jealousy. Some out of shape chain smoking slobs with guts are enraged by the sight of a young lean virile lad who does not need viagra, or cialis to make his night. Oh yes, I tossed an incendiary one there. Yes, I get it, he is a bad boy. It could have been left at that, Instead we have the hysterical rants about vegans. Rather pathetic, when I know that those most vociferous are suffering heart and lung disease from their lifestyle. Much of the anger is driven by self loathing and not by any concern for the kid's safety or otherwise.

Aside from the poor judgement, that's a good kid. Non smoker, active, non recreational drug user, polite, physically fit, sociable. Quite different than the narginal tattooed slobs who have multiple failed relationships and are scraping by in life.

He's a good kid, who made a mistake. Mature adults corrected his error. He learned his lesson. Move on.

Racing cyclist the world over are idiots, in Holland they cause a lot of trouble too.

But i do respect the guys stamina and performance, just stupid to break traffic law like that.

I am a serious cyclist - so are you saying that I am an idiot too? And on what basis did you appoint yourself as judge and jury of all cyclists worldwide?

It may interest you to know that cycling is the single fastest growing sport globally (bar none) and that literally millions of people (from young children right up to octogenarians) derive great pleasure from cycling and are in the main considerate, careful and respectful to others on the roads etc. Not to mention the fact that it is arguably the best form of aerobic exercise you can do (with the possible exception of swimming) is environmentally friendly and relatively inexpensive once you get your bike etc.

You mention Holland has being especially bad - I would like to see you provide evidence for this, as Holland is known world-wide has being especially ''cycling-friendly'' and the Dutch government has led the world in providing facilities, equipment and paths etc to encourage the sport.

I agree, morons such as 'Aussie vegan cyclist' create a really bad image for my beloved sport - but thankfully, idiots like him are in the minority. (which is probably the reason why his exploits have caused so much attention!) Yet, at this very moment, nearly 200 supremely fit and utterly dedicated professional cyclists are slogging their way around France, across mountains and arid plains in searing heat and torrential rainstorms with virtually little or no coverage of this on any of the Thai TV channels.

Perhaps you need to get out a bit more and be more open-minded in your opinions. All sports have their 'bad elements' - but to dismiss everyone involved in cycling based on the behavior of just one, is almost as idiotic as 'Aussie vegan cyclist' himself!

You must be joking, in Holland the racing cyclists are hated by the majority of people because they misbehave a lot when in groups. They don't follow trafficrules and think they are more than other roadusers.

Also the biketracks are not build for racing groups, they are for normal cyclists who go to school or so.

They act like those vegan idiots who also think they shouldn't follow any roadrule and just drive against traffic for the camera. Those guys are even more ridiculous because there's nothing to win.

I second this whole heartly.

Now there you gave me a ROFLMAO. Pot and the cattle? Is he there hiding with you in the bath tub? Underneath the emptied unhealthy drink cans?

My fat belly tells me by the looks of that Vegan boy that he is just a fundamentalist. Whatever fundamentalist...I don't like them; they usually like to put their will on others.

Police must have decided that as he is brain dead it would be a waste of time to send him for attitude adjustment. What a tosser!! Shame on you Vegan (bean head).

I saw the Fastest Vegan video before the police caught on to him. He got a ton of angry comments in Thai, and no doubt someone tipped off the cops. His riding was reckless. Making the video was arrogant and unwise. Nevertheless, he seemed genuinely contrite in his apology video. The cops handled it reasonably well. If this is the start of his learning not to act like an idiot, good for him. It makes no difference to me that he is vegan, Australian, young, or whatever.

Call it what you want....this kids a powerhouse and frankly....good on him, nice to see bikes command the road for once where cars, trucks and busses rule with total disregard to pedestrians.

Nothing to do with his cycling abilities.

First and most obviously trucks are bigger then bikes thus hurt more.

Secondly didn't your mother ever tell you two wrongs don't make a right?

If I was cylcing or driving with my family on that road, hell even walking, and got injured or worse because of this, or good forbid someone in my family did, would you also say "good to see"??

Sure I'd love to get my times up DS to the 30 min mark but his antics aren't sure going to inspire me!

What a complete utter idiots they are! Taking corners against traffic just for fun, what if a bus full of children came downhill at the same spot?

I don't believe a cyclist is any danger to a bus full of children, no matter what he does.

I would automatically swerve to avoid him, as I think many would as it's a natural reaction, and if a bus driver did it might go off the edge.

Looks like a square meal would do him no harm,

what does he weigh, about 5 stone* I would think.

regards Worgeordie * 70 lbs U.S.30 Kgs, approx.

Bodyweight makes a huge difference with cycling, especially with hills, ideally you want to be shredded with no useless upperbody size while still being strong. Otherwise no point in spending $thousands on a lightweight carbon bike

Stay in the correct lane at all times. Your death will mean little to Thais and will compensate accordingly.

The death of an ocker show-off in lycra and a cyclist to boot? We can only hope.

So how old are you now mate? You can't imagine a busdriver coming around the corner to see those idiots riding right against him? And what if that driver gets in panick and just gives a turn to the wheel out of shock and trying to avoid them???

You must be a vegan as well i guess...totally off the planet.

Veganism - A socially acceptable eating disorder.

Bikes are a third world form of transport and belong in velodromes when used for sporting activities - not on the roads.

Yes this was a bit extreme, the guy was leading from the front, with no pace-setters to help. I'd love to know whether the record holder did it like this (solo). It was just like a solo time trial and the speed he went past others on the road, you just gotta say, hats off....

The thing is, for all the non-cyclists condoning this ride, the cycling scene in the area is incredible, the best in SE Asia, and it's widely recognised plus most know of the record.

But next time Aussie, try getting some lead out, so u don't need to cut those corners. No accident happened, and this probably will not happen again,,,,Allez vite Aussie.

Are you sure you know the meaning of the word "condone"?

I think he means "condemn"???

It's been a week of Australians distinguishing themselves either in Thailand, or enroute to Thailand.

The best thing would be to have a proper closed road time trial over a few hours every June or whenever? Sunday morning at 05:00. There are enough cyclists now, enough bike shops and firms to sponsor this race. No need to worry about pickups or cars. Records can be set safely and it would be a good goal to train for. Could be international and may even become prestigious?

Seen the spandex wearing cyclist going up and down the sois off Nimman, going way to fast, after dark, when there is commonly people overflowing into the street. Speed limit is likely 12 Kmph, and they are going 40....Where's Yaris Girl, when you need her?

Not needed, ive seen the video of the Doi suthep record holder Peter Pouly do his time trial and he stayed left the whole time. There are organised rides and time trials every year up there too

In my home town in Australia they're called the Lycra Lunatics.

I think you mean Lycra.

I agree with one of the early posters......this is one egocentric crank handle!!

Why guys feel the need to don skin tight lycra gear, accentuating their spuds, is beyond me.

Hold on....that's it! Accentuating their miniscule/ inconsiderable spuds. Got it.

Some of them look very nice in Lycra.

Not the old guys with the hanging belly or the vegans, they all look like freaks.

I'm talking the ones with nicely defined leg muscles, tight butts and decent shoulder muscles.

The cyclocross men usually look the best in Lycra, all those muscles from carrying the bikes up hills ...... mmmmmm.

PS

You can't see their parts, it's just foam padding shaped like a nappy to protect them from injury.

Something to do with wicking away moisture and sweat from the skin, reducing air risistance, aiding in cooling the body, dries very quickly ect

Still a freak show though
