A British pedophile was arrested in Siem Reap city late on Wednesday night after attempting to renew his Cambodian visa, according to provincial immigration police department chief Chea Kimsan. Midgley Damien had been living in the province for two months, evading arrest in the United Kingdom where he was convicted on pedophilia charges last year, before his location near Siem Reap’s Pub Street was discovered by Cambodian authorities at about 11pm on Wednesday.

Mr. Damien now awaits deportation at the provincial immigration police office, Mr. Kimsan said. Major General Uk Heisela, director of investigations and procedure at the Interior Ministry’s immigration department, said Mr. Damien had likely been living in the Kingdom for a year before his arrest.

Mr. Damien was sentence in absentia to six years in prison last year, Maj. Gen. Heisela added, at which time a warrant for his arrest was issued. “We spotted him when he asked to renew his visa to stay in Cambodia,” Maj. Gen. Heisela said, adding that Mr. Damien’s deportation was in progress.

evading arrest in the United Kingdom where he was convicted on pedophilia charges last year ...

Mr. Damien was sentence [sic] in absentia to six years in prison last year ...

British police and immigrations seem to have a terrible problem locating or holding onto criminals. Probably a case of tea money changing hands.

It worries me...as the world becomes more liberal and accepting of people living on the fringe of what has been acceptable sexual behaviors...that this too will one day be accepted as a norm and protected from prosecution...there are organizations working toward this end even now...

One can not be too careful when raising young children...family, friends, neighbors, strangers...are all potential spoilers of your child's innocence...

That's the way . Send em home where they belong

Couldn't agree more... if a country produces a bad un, they should have to have them back unless another country where they are serving time wants to keep them until they've paid their due.

Unlike the pathetic human rights rubbish in the EU.
