bander
Quite scary that they can just go into your home and check without a warrant or anything. That they want to check for people overstaying.. ok but a house to house search for substances is crazy. Why, this is not a first world country, anyone with 'brass' can do what they like... This is not a first world country, it's never gone be a first world country. It's a banana republic controlled by BIB's who think they are above the law and can do what ever they want. mcfish
Overstays are to blame for this. For years they have been breaking the law snubbing their nose at immigration so now got immigration is fighting back. I hope they raid all the ghetto slum condos in Pattaya and throw them all in a back of a ute in cuffs For the rest of you just suck it up and show your passport at the door and thank the overstayers for your inconviniance

louse1953
I find this scary. Even i have nothing to hide and have a valid visa, i would feel very uncomfortable if my condo get raided. Look behind you,it is your shadow.
mcfish
Why cant the UK be more like this ? Dont worry it might take another 20 years but its coming. No other choice really. Eventually the people will rise and conduct the searches themselves...

That they want to check for people overstaying.. ok but a house to house search for substances is crazy. Under Thai Law, police have no right to come into your home unless they have a warrant or you let them in.Things might be different under current martial law though. Passports can be checked at the door. Thank you manarak for straightening this one out. Absolutely the police have no right to enter your home unless they have a warrant. If they do not; under no circumstances invite the police inside your home. I'm not even sure that they have the right to ask to examine your passport, as they should have this information at Immigration. In any event I would do exactly what manarak advises. One doesn't want to make the police lose face. Just close the door first and any external windows before you go retrieve your passport. Just because you live in the LOS, doesn't mean the police here can violate your human rights - which would be 'due process' in this case. Thank you. <wai>

Same with your car Yes. All sorts of things can happen. But that kind of always has been the case in Thailand. I fear it may be on the uprise. Times are tough. People are getting squeezed for money. Farangs are bigger and bigger targets. Times are tough for BIB, they cannot extortion money from foreign bar owners when the military are watching, but extortion from bottom feeders condo owners are accepted. mcfish
The Pattaya one comment section is overwhelmingly supportive of the raids. Everyone is just sick of the scum element in Pattaya. secosteve
The only people to blame are those overstaying, they know the rules but think they can get away with it, they just make problems for those of us who have the right to remain in the Kingdom. So, along as you're not a bad guy in a movie, you should be safe from the drug planting conspiracy theory..
BlindMagician
Take a giant yellow basket gift to a po...lease station, say it's for their under boss. Hand it over in person, take a photo of you and your new best mate. Pin up printed copies of said photo on the outside of your condo door. You won't get raided. gandalf12
I continue to hear the moan of crack downs on expats and basically harassing expats. I have lived here for over 30 years and I take trips around, usually with my wife but occasionally I do some shopping in Bangkok and Future Park by myself. Never have I been stopped or questioned by the police. I have been stopped in the car twice but the police were very good and we had a laugh but nothing else. My point is what are these guys who get harassed doing for receive such treatment? Yes sometimes you get to police check point and they want to see documents but it has always been a non-aggressive affair. mcfish
Just imagine what those poor officers had to witness up entering those rooms. Already jumpy hungover farang now totally freaked out, rooms littered with beer cans and empty bottles of Hong Tong , reeking of cigarette smoke and some skank beach rd hooker still naked and passed out on the bed. Do they offer them counselling like in the west?

This is not a true statement. People do not enforce their rights. By law, they need a search warrant. If you open the door, allowing them entrance then you have waived that right. Most people don't know what their rights are and as such, they have none.
