PAK CHONG: Confiscation of large piece of land illegally occupied for decades by influential people continued with the latest target being the land occupied by a former senior police officer at Khao Yai national park in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Leading the team of forestry officials, police, soldiers and land reform officials was the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Gen Chatchai Sarikulya.

The minister put up a sign on the front gate of a residence located on the over 500 rai of lands in Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The property was owned by Pol Maj Gen Chalee Phekanant, former deputy commissioner in charge of the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, and also former commander of the Marine Police.

The sign declares that now this property No. 8069 has been seized by the government, and orders the owner to leave the property within 30 days after the sign was put up.

Gen Chatchai said the Supreme Court has already ordered that the owner be evicted from the property but so far the court’s order was defied and ignored.

Therefore authorities have no choice but to invoke Section 44 of the Interim Constitution to take it back to the state under the policy of the government to reclaim all illegally occupied from influential people and reallocate to landless farmers to make living.

He described the former police officer an influential people who illegally occupied state land

He said the owner and his family have been informed that they have to leave the premises within 30 days of receiving notice.

The next owner must be ready to move in.

A family member of the previous occupant. This has been going on for decades amazing where will he be transferred to prison. Edited by elgordo38

So senior that he can ignore an order of the Supreme Court...

Sounds similar to the popularity of a fugitive's birthday bash...where even senior police officers wanted to attend.

Okay take away his pension or cut it in half, fine him, arrest and jail him. Or are those investigating and prosecuting corrupt as well?

I really can't believe that the State has no ability to enforce a legal eviction order from the Supreme Court even without the RTM being involved with all RTP's personnel, weapons and support vehicles.

But it seems easier for Thai enforcement authorities to simply pass the buck to the NCPO to take control.

Such does nothing for reforming the Thai enforcement community to be more effective.

The way I read this, is that this is just another manifestation of the contempt the military hold for the police. Headhunting 101.

Deservedly maybe, seen all the news about police antics.

have to agree, there is something badly wrong if they have to keep invoking section 44 to enforce the law, what happens next year when there is an election and the current interim charter and NCPO are no longer, it seems to me that without section 44 there is no way to actually effectively enforce the law in certain cases and that is a massive problem that needs addressed, it is also possible that they don't know how

If the government was to actualy take the correct action and charge him in a criminal court then that would set a p residence and then the government would come under the same law and be tried for their crimes after they leave office.

Charge him with what? being a squatter?

The article refers to him as the owner which is wrong. He never was.

Kick him out fine,,,, I wanna know to which use they are going to put the property to now????

was the land owned by the officer or encroached upon?

if the officer is the owner then he must some evidence of purchase.

if he is unable to support his purchase, only then he can be asked to leave.

A former Deputy is an influential figure how about the Commissioner? If a commissioner can't figure out what his deputy is doing I would like every commissioner of the RTP should be investigated.

Getting about as high up as possible ... and no sense of outrage that he can be so corrupt?

And I guess no jail time.

It's nothing to do with Prayut clamping down on influential figures, he's told by his masters who to go after, and he has no choice, otherwise his own enormous wealth will be investigated.

I bet he can't wait to get out of the job he was ordered to take.

That's the problem with such a corrupt system, unless you are at the very top, someone has always got something on you, something to use against you when you fall out of favor.

The current PM has no choice in anything, he's simply following orders, or he himself becomes out of favor, and he knows where that could lead.

These tactics serve as a future warning to others, don't mess with the system, the system has been working for the few untouchables for a long time, and they want it to stay that way.

Draconian laws to suppress and silence the millions for the benefit of just a few, it stinks from an outsiders perspective, but in Thailand it's normality for the population, they have been brainwashed from birth by the system.

This is why I can never understand Farangs arguing on the Political threads, it doesn't matter who's in the PM's chair, they all have to follow orders from a certain section of Thai society that runs the country for their own benefit, why do you think the Generals are allowed to get away with the blatant corruption that everybody knows they are involved in, a Policeman would have a hard time explaining how he has amassed a Billion Baht if investigated, likewise a Soldier, so they do as they are told in fear of investigation.

And of course corruption is endemic in all ranks, so everyone has to follow orders from above, or else.

For the people who run Thailand it's a system that works, anyone who challenges that system or looks to be a threat, they are ousted and replaced by people who will do as they are told.
