just went thru there a few days ago, if ur looking for a beautiful area to spend a few days GO NOW, its right on the Mekong, Many small gh/hotels all done up in beautiful wood, food is VERY inexpensive and good, first town in Thailand i have seen biking tracks on BOTH sides of the road heading out of town. boardwalk along the river an the small street that runs near the river turns into a walking street every night!!

Its a Thai destination so don't expect lots of English in a few years once the farangs discover it , it will become spoiled like Pai.

GO NOW>>> only 55 kms north of Loei

I agree - I went there a few years ago with friends who live in Loei.

If you like boring and Quiet, go during the week, weekends get busy, it is Beautiful on the Mekong

Nice little town with friendly people.......even the BIB are helpful......don't go on New Year its packed with Thai middle class posers...those quiet empty streets pictured above become packed liked sardines in a tin....and unless booked earlier will not find a room vacant, or a place to park.

I wanted to cross the river but as a dutch I could not get a visa locally.
