Inmate citing prison riot in Pattani dies in Songkhla prison



PATTANI: -- A prisoner who was accused of inciting a riot in Pattani central prison last week that left three dead and five injured has died in Songkhla prison, according to a human right activist.

His name was not known but National Human Rights Commission member Mrs Angkhana Neelapaijit posted on her Facebook saying the Corrections Department needs to clarify this if the death of this inmate was true.

She said the Corrections Department has earlier stressed there was no more inmate injured or died after the riot was kept under control.

She posted on Facebook today saying she was unofficially informed one of the two prisoners accused of inciting the riot and sent to Songkhla prison has died.

She then put a hashtag #‎RightToLIVE‬ on her Facebook post.

The riot at the Pattani central prison was staged by over 100 inmates.

Prison warders later said they were incited by two inmates.

One was in jail for attempted murder and the other for theft.

Three inmates were killed and four guards injured in a seven-hour riot at the Pattani central prison, allegedly triggered by a protest over searches for mobile phones and drugs.
