After I had TOT fiber installed I noticed that streaming through the TOT-supplied modem/router is noticeably slower than it had been through the ancient D-Link router that I'd discarded. Shouldn't be, but is. I hooked up a new D-Link switch bought from JIB for B270; it completely cured the streaming slowdown issue. Maybe it's my imagination (I'm not going to bother running tests) but internet surfing seems faster too, as pages seem delivered faster to my box (to oversimplify). I dunno about other ISP modem/routers, but if you have a TOT, you might consider trying this yourself.

I have TOT fiber4U, and its been running slowly lately, it's 35 Mps /5Mps,

the router they supplied is a Chinese ZTE,instructions all in Chinese too.

4 port,no WiFi,

So the Dlink switch where does it go and what does it do?,thanks for any

help.

Just been on JIB website and its a D-Link switch hub 5 port, 10/100 Mbs DES 1005a 270 THB. is that the one ?

they also have a 10/100/1000 Mbs one for 520 THB wonder if that would be even better.

That's the one, on the JIB website. In stock at Harbor, unless I got the last one. You probably don't need the faster one (I didn't) if you're not streaming very large files (and after all the 10/100 is faster than your internet connection) but no harm in getting it. Future proofing? One can hope.

Very simple to hook up. Just plug a cable from from the TOT modem/router to any port on the switch. (You'll need a short extra LAN cable.) Then unplug your LAN cables from the TOT and into the D-Link. The switch finds the internet connection and connects it to your machines automatically. Simple.

Hope that helps. No guarantees. But after all there's the internet connection speed and then there's the connection speed of your computer to that internet connection. I do think in my case the little switch helped. Definitely helped w/ the streaming to my TV via a WDTV media player--I couldn't stream large files w/o stopping and starting.

TOT uses the cheapest crap they can find and change supplier when they find a 5 Baht cheaper box.

Let TOT only install a bridge and buy your own router.

A simple hub after your router can't improve your internet connection, how should he, technically spoken?

Wishful thinking.

However, a lot of people were "cured" by placebos and black magic...so everything seems to be possiblerolleyes.gif

Already considered hence pointedly covered by "maybe my imagination," but of course you did find it difficult to refrain from seizing upon the slightest hope of displaying technically spoken brilliance combined with deep historical insight. Very impressive. Next.

My Tot router is acting up a bit too... it seems like I have to reset it often by turning it off and then back on... I have been thinking about bringing it in and asking for a new router - this one is several years old...

No, just realistic.

I too have ToT FFTH and yes, their "Router" (GPON AN5506-04-F) is utter crap.

No internal network between connected devices, etc.pp.

I'm running the Tot junk in "bridge mode" (only modem) and use an Asus WRT Router for everything else.

The only thing which really helps if you notice slowdowns, is a regularly reboot of the GPON, to get a new IP.

I'm not really sure, if these issues depend on the router itself or ToT.

Otherwise, the down + upload speeds (and "reliability") are identical, with or without the Asus, wifi or ethernet.
