Ubonjoe ... are you able to move posts 26-30 of this thread to a new thread entitled 'Can I get PR in Thailand if retired but supporting Thai wife?' as I've managed to lead us off the original topic a bit? wink.png

There already have been topics about and I cannot create one from posts.

Look at this long topic for info or do a post there: Camerata's Guide to Permanent Residence

I can assure you it is not possible without working for at least 3 consecutive years. I considered it myself and found out it is not possible now. I will soon be applying for my 9th extension based upon marriage.

Sorry thought (as a moderator) you could move posts to a new thread.

Anyway I shall read the thread link you sent me with interest as the notice link you gave me seems to still infer you can apply for PR for 'Humanitarion' reasons to look after your Thai wife without any reference to employment actually being necessary as far as I can see.

Have a few more questions please.

1)  I see from the link Elviajero gave me that Bangkok immigration offers various 'online' services for avoiding queues for such things as re-entry permits etc.  but does anyone know whether the Chiang Mai Immigration department offer similar facilities and what the link address is for them please?

2)  Following feedback from this post I believe I am likely to choose the following steps for my 6 month visit to Thailand in November:-  Obtain a 90 day Single Entry Non-O Visa, Apply for 1 year extension as soon as possible after arrival, Apply for a re-entry permit as soon as I have received extension.   My question is when I've received the re-entry permit does that mean I will NOT need to apply for another Visa in the UK before I enter Thailand again in November 2017?

3)  If the answer to the above question is 'Yes' then can I just repeat the 1 year extension + re-entry permit process within Thailand add infinitum each year and never have to apply for a visa from within the UK again?

2. You can re-enter, without a new visa from the UK, anytime before the expiry date of the re-entry permit. The expiry date of the re-entry permit should be the same as the expiry date of the 1 year extension of stay.

3. Yes. You can apply for a new extension of stay/re-entry permit every year without needing a new visa as long as you are in the country and apply on or before the expiry date of the current extension of stay. You can apply within the last 30 (maybe 45 at CM) days of the current extension of stay.

Thanks again Elviajero that sounds ideal for me although I need to be careful as my UK Passport expires some time in 2018 which could pose some logistical problems at some point.

You kindly gave me a list of the documents I'd need to present for my visa extension so I wonder if you could help me with a list of the documents I'd need to present together with my completed TM8 form in order to apply for a 're-entry permit' as I can't seem to find the right page on the immigration website?  Cheers

  • Form TM.8
  • 1 x photo 6 x 4 cm.
  • Signed copies of your passport pages: ID page, visa, entry stamp, departure card.
  • 7 months later...

Quick update on this post to advise those of you (especially Elviajero) that following your advice I today successfully got my one year extension and re-entry permit in my passport so my return to Thailand around November should be plain sailing unless our Boris says something daft of course and upsets someone.   Thanks again guys .... these forums do a great job.

No need for the 20k baht to apply for the extension.

Not. 20K is only required, sometimes, when applying for visas and entering the country.
