EC inspects facility in charge of printing referendum ballots

BANGKOK, 26 July 2016 (NNT) - The Election Commission has made an inspection trip to the printing house tasked with the printing of the public referendum ballot papers.

On Monday, Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, led a team of EC executives and members of the press to visit Chan Wanich Security Printing Company Limited in Samut Prakarn Province, where 56.4 million public referendum ballots have been printed.

Mr. Somchai confirmed that a committee was set up to monitor every stage of the printing while officers have been assigned to monitor the entire process around the clock.

He added that a special type of ink has been used for the printing of the referendum ballots while a watermark has also been incorporated in the process.

Mr. Somchai said that the ballots have been going out to all voting units across the country since July 9 and the delivery is scheduled to wrap up on July 27.

Concerning the government’s suggestion of nationwide debates on the draft charter, he said that the EC meeting has resolved to agree with the idea and has allocated budget for each province to hold just one debate before August 3.

"where 56.4 million public referendum ballots have been printed."

I find this quite interesting, as the "other news source" reported today

that the total printed was 54.6 million, which they said was 8% more

than the registered number of voters. How can that be? More than 2

million in any direction is a large discrepancy. Curious blink.png
