F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone's mother-in-law 'kidnapped in Sao Paulo'

SAO PAULO: -- The mother-in-law of Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has been kidnapped in Brazil with criminals demanding a ransom of $36.5m (£28m), reports say.

Aparecida Schunck, the 67-year-old mother of Mr Ecclestone's wife Fabiana Flosi, was seized in Sao Paulo on Friday night, Veja and Globo reported.

Police in the city have not yet commented.

Mr Ecclestone, 85, is one of the most powerful men in sport and is worth an estimated $3.1bn (£2.4bn).

Paying good cash to get a Mother-in-law back is nothing short of torture.

here's $10 Mil to keep the MIL!

Jokes aside, a terrible experience for all in the family.

Can't wait till the rest of the athletes arrive in time for the Olympics.

So even the rich and powerful aren't immune to crime in Brazil. I would imagine for much less than US$36 mil, he could hire mercenaries to go in there and get his MIL back...if he wanted to.

As an aside, TV members should appreciate that this guy is 47 yrs older than his wife and is nearly 20 yrs older than his MIL. Our hero!

2016 Olympics are shaping up to be a field day for the press.

demanding a ransom of $36.5m (£28m),

Chump change for Bernie.

Bet he tries to negotiate the ransom demand down.

The NZ tai kwondo guy and now this. This olympics is going to be such an abortion; muggings, drugs, doping and murder galore. Next on the schedule, Russia WC 2018. Stroll on! Any eavesdropping aliens must think we're a failed planet.

The Brazilian crime syndicate must have thought they had died and gone to criminal heaven when Brazil landed the Olympics.

First of many opportunities to ply their trade on an unsuspecting naïve world sports participants and fans...

Big payday for criminals.

someone should have kidnapped bernie, doubt he would be missed

Referring to the ages you mention, seems like Bernie would fit in well here in Thailand.

Look on the bright side, this might be one olympics where nobody wants to defect to the host country.

Why $36.5m?

How did they come up with that figure?

Is there a formula?

Yes…Formula One.
