BANGKOK: -- A Middle Easterner who has been treated at Bamrasnaradul hospital has been diagnosed of being infected with MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), said Dr Amnuay Kajina, director-general of Diseases Control Department, on Saturday.

No details about the patient were given however but only the fact that laboratory tests showed that the patient was infected with MERS and that the patient is still being treated at the hospital.

According to Communicable Diseases Act B.E. 2523, the Ministry of Public Health must be notified by the hospital if there is a MERS case.

Dr Amnuay, however, said that this was not the first MERS case as Thailand had take care of several MERS cases before.
