There is not 30 day wait at Immigration at the Chonburi (AKA Jomtien) immigration to get the approval of an extension of stay based upon retirement. The 30 days is for an application based upon marriage to a Thai.

It will be a two step process to get the extension.

Step one is to apply for 90 day non immigrant visa entry. You must apply for it before you have less than 15 day remaining on your 60 day entry from your tourist visa. After you do the application it will be about 15 days before your get approval of the visa application.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa you can apply for the one year extension of stay.

Joe has given the correct answer.

Thank you very much

Just keep in mind that however many documents and copies you may bring, they will want more.

At the very least-- when doing the one year extension-- first time and every time:

  • Make three copies of everything.
  • Know where the nearest copy shop is located to the immigration office. Because you might need to revise/redo a form and then have to copy it again during your application process.
(Tip: At Chaeng Wattana, there is a copy shop in the mall downstairs.)
  • Have more duplicate photos than officially requested on the odd chance that you have to re-do the form containing the picture.
  • Better yet: bring an UHU Glue Stick and leave the photos loose until you are certain that your form will meet their quirky and shifting "requirements."

AS we all know this is Thailand and what happens at one immigration office does not necessarily happen at another office.

So , just for the record - when I did my last re-newal of permission to stay based on retirement in Udon Thani I applied 28 days early as I may have needed

to do a quick trip back to Aust when the actual re-newal was due- ( didnt in the end) .

Not only did they give me a 30 days under consideration........but even though I applied early the time period was 30 days from the actual re-newal due date NOT the date the application was " handed in".

This  meant that I had a 58 day wait for my new permission to stay stamp . No big problem --just  seemed somewhat  inconvenient and pointless.

As it looks like you may be using the Jomtien office, for 200 baht, the copy/visa shop on the left as you enter the Immigration office will review and prepare all your paperwork and copies for you.
