The announcements were made under the banner "Good guys in, Bad guys out". Top of the overstayers was Permjit Singh Pa, 26, arrested on 21st July at Rainbow House, Pattaya, for 631 days. He faces a ten year ban if he would like to come back to Thailand. The "silver medal" went to Iranian Majid Aram who was nabbed on the 27th of July in front of Chonburi Immigration itself. He had overstayed 213 days and faces a five year ban. Coming in a distant third was UK citizen Patrick Smith, 48, apprehended outside La Brasserie restaurant in Pattaya. He also faces a five year sojourn for his 148 days illegally in the kingdom. Also mentioned in dispatches was Nanthaphop Sukhonthamat, 37, who was fined for not reporting a foreigner staying at the Pannathorn Guest House, in Pattaya within 24 hours of the guest's arrival. All the policemen and immigration officials related to each arrest were also mentioned by name in each case. Briggsy
This rather mocking and cynical journalistic style which has recently sprouted up when reporting Pattaya crime news may well lead to some reporters' arrests. Disrespect the cops here at your peril.

One of the folks up in my remote part of the world, is on his way out health wise. I guess they've missed him in the roundups. 7 years!! Overstay. No one really understands why a guy with copious rubber plantations, a house with all the family around him and so on and so forth would endanger his situation in this way. Now wheel chair bound, to be sent home at this stage of things would be outrageously inconvenient. Strange, this overstaying thing, when you have all the qaulaifications to remain. Thailand is very compassionate ...until bureaucracy gets in its way, maybe if someone has the means to support themselves in such a situation they could ask for compassionate consideration. Please remember The real bad guys all have the correct visa, live in expensive houses and drive expensive cars. xineohp
Should one ever contemplate being an overstayer, one would need his brain examined if he were to either be anywhere near the "front of Chonburi Immigration" or within 50kms of Pattaya. Their collective IQ most likely did not reach double figures.

But such a booklet would be empty, cos by definition, it is "common", meaning known to all as it's self evident, so no point in writing any explanation text in such a wee book.
