Justice minister assures no double standard in pursuing lawsuits against Dhammachayo

BANGKOK: -- The justice minister assured the disciples of the infamous abbot of Wat Dhammakaya that no double standard was practised in pursuance of lawsuits against their abbot.

The justice minister Gen Phaiboon Khumchaya’s strong reaction came as some disciples of Phra Dhammachayo, his lawyer and his networks came out in recent press conference to question the role of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in pursuing criminal cases against the abbot.

They asked why didn’t the DSI pursue cases against Phra Buddha-issara, the activist abbot of Wat Or-noi in Nakhon Pathom, over his role in laying siege to Don Mueang airport in the past several years.

Gen Phaiboon said the case between Phra Dhammachayo and Phra Buddha-issara could not be used for comparison.

He said as far as he learned and followed, Phra Buddha-issara acknowledged all charges brought against him by either the Royal Thai Police, the Office of the Attorney- General, and was ready to defend all his cases under the country’s justice system.

The abbot also turned himself up to authorities upon receiving official warrants, he said.

But on the contrary the abbot of Wat Dhammakaya rejected justice system and never acknowledged the criminal charges against him, he said.

Besides he also used his lawyer, his network to defend his innocence with no regard to justice system.

Gen Phaiboon warned that the abbot’s lawyers should perform their job properly by advising their client to fight and defend in court instead of making public appearances regularly to tell the public that the abbot was unfairly treated.

He added whatever the abbot would do to reject justice system, he would not escape the long arm of the law.

Trust me, we are Thai!

Thailand has double standards written into its laws.

Justice minister said   !! no double standards !!:cheesy::cheesy:

If he thinks people believe that, he is living in la-la land.

You only have to study recent cases here to see double standards.

No double standards,  sometimes there's absolutely no standard.

no double standards?

I did not know the monk is in prison

Sad that the assurance even has to be uttered. Much less accepted with derision and disbelief.

How come he's not been arrested by now then?

....wow....

No double standards, triple standards, one for the government, one for the temple

and clergymen and one for us, the masses of suckers.

Ehhm,  Ehhm,  pass Magnus

So using the example of Phra Buddha-issara, if Phra Dhammachayo were to appear to hear the charges against him, he won't be prosecuted?

No - far more than just two standards to chose from. Almost bespoke!
