Assembly told losses from rice pledging scheme total about 745 billion baht

 

 

Losses from the rice pledging scheme undertaken by Yingluck administration and previous governments amounted to 745 billion baht from 15 projects, including 11 initiated by Yingluck government, Deputy Finance Minister Wisut Srisuphan told lawmakers at the parliament on Friday.

 

The deputy finance minister’s statement was in response to an interpellation raised by Mr Somchai Sawaengkarn, a member of the National Legislative Assembly.

 

Mr Somchai asked how much are the losses from the rice pledging scheme implemented by the Pheu Thai-led government and its previous administrations and also the loss from the fake government-to-government rice deal with China in which former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyaphirom and his deputy, Mr Poom Saraphol, were implicated.

 

Mr Wisuit said that the loss incurred during the Yingluck administration was estimated at about 536 billion baht while the previous governments were accountable for loss amounting to 163 billion baht.

 

The deputy finance minister said that a committee considering civil lawsuits regarding losses from rice pledging scheme was expected to wrap up the case later this month for submission to the Finance Ministry for finalization about civil litigation to be taken against those responsible.

 

Regarding the fake G-to-G case, Mr Wisut said three officials and three politicians are to face charges and held accountable for the loss to the deal estimated at about 25.7 billion baht.

Another day, a different amount. I suppose when Prayut stated yesterday that the amount of the losses would increase from less than 300 billion, his plebs have just followed his orders.

 

They are either incompetent and have no idea or they are really convincing actors.

Wasn't the previous administration aphisit or was it the army lost track that lost 165 billion or because its a smaller amount it does not count oh of course they are not related to Thaksin. The current administration and its dictator leader are responsible for far greater losses the stagnation of the economy the job losses due to their policies of knocking down businesses that have been there years have put thousands of local people out of work in phuket alone. The crime rate has increased due to peoples need to eat and live. This person should wake up and look in the mirror or at least go and get an education that qualifies him to run a country not an army camp.

How come Finance Ministry is releasing information to Gov't Assembly on the Rice Pledging Scheme losses when a Supreme court hearing is proceeding on the very issue? Isn't that perjury??

The members of the triumphant mob that cheered the army to power are still enjoying their victory. Playing politics with the economy is an expensive business. The costs to Thailand’s economy are still piling up. Compared with trend economic growth the cost will be perhaps $20 billion to $30 billion from 2014 to 2016, which makes it roughly equal in value to the wealth of the Thai monarchy. One can only hope the junta’s upcoming performance is good enough to offset such a loss (The Economist).

 

That is USD20-30 B and will larger than the rice scheme cost and do not include other populist policies for rubber, rice and other agricultural produces.

Where is Somchai as well?

 

Samak, well sadly he died.

 

There was a military government before that and then we are back to Thaksin.

 

So how far do you want to go back? Only to Abhisit as that suits your agenda or further than Abhisit which may not suit your agenda.

 

I shouldn't think that there is any rice  left from 2007 and earlier which just leaves Samak, Somchai and Abhisit. The first 2 were hand picked by Thaksin as was Yingluck, so 3 out of the last 4 PMs were Thaksin's choice.

Under the Abhisit, there were losses too, mainly due to corruption, but just not on the scale of TRT/PTP's version of Rice Scheme. But many outside organizations have said DEMS's version is the more sustainable one.
