rooster59
Thais spend more this year taking moms out to restaurants on Mother’s Day The upcoming National Mother's Day on August 12 will see Thai people spending more calling on restaurants with their moms for family reunions. According to the survey of the Kasikorn Research Centre only in Bangkok, people are expected to spend 2.8 billion baht during the National Mother’s Day, up 3.7% from last year’s spending on this special occasion. It said the three-day holiday period of this year’s Mother’s Day from August 12 to 14 will stimulate expenditures on activities such as dining out, travelling with moms and buying gifts for moms which are the most popular activities. With all the money up for grabs during the period, business operators now are ready to launch promotion campaign to spur the spending, to persuade sons and daughters to buy gifts to mothers. goldenbrwn1
About time they started taking their mothers out. Esp the older Thai men, they seem to be always taking their daughters to fancy restaurants. Maybe the wives will get lucky soon and be taken out too. tukkytuktuk
I gave my Thai mother in law flowers for last years mother's day. She put them on the spirit house, so this year I've got her a small concrete zebra.
Berty100
I take it that Kasikorn research center is now populated by fortune tellers, since they already know the result of an event that is still 1 week ahead.
NongKhaiKid
This is straight out of the Tourism Minister's playbook as she can announce tourism figures and expediture befoe the holiday in question is even over.

sahibji
although i personally dislike the commercialization in all these days, respecting and honouring mothers is really honourable. it would be cliche to say mothers make so many sacrifices for their families and to being a smile to their face, albeit occasionally will be a cherishable occasionfor them. Yes polls can be wildly inaccurate but do I presume you don't include those that indicate the PM's massive popularity in that category ?
