Prachin Buri villagers campaign for constitutional referendum

Vipaporn Pooritanasarn

PRACHIN BURI, 6 August 2016 (NNT) – Residents in Prachin Buri Province have formed a group to campaign for the upcoming draft constitution referendum.

The campaigners visited different areas in Muang District, giving out leaflets publicizing the constitutional referendum. Some of them were clad in the costume of the mythical monkey god ‘Hanuman’, which is the symbol of the referendum. Their parade was warmly received by passers-by and residents.

The draft charter referendum is scheduled for Sunday 7th August. The Election Commission earlier organized activities to educate the general public on the contents of the draft charter. Around 50.5 million people are eligible voters. The Election Commission expects an 80 percent turn out.

So it's illegal for a group of more than 5 people to congregate to debate the referendum but ok for a group of villagers to campaign FOR it?

Apparently so, although it is possible that they were trying to get people to go out and vote one way OR the other rather than to vote one way. Anyway, kind of fitting they wore monkey costumes and dressed up as the shapeshifter and slayer of demons, Hanuman
