No problem unless you have done several of them recently.

You can also apply for 30 day extension at immigration if you have not done it already.

  • As a one off it shouldn't be a problem.

Note that if you do multiple back to back out/in visa exempt entries they will soon start questioning you about what you do here, and if you cannot satisfy them that you're a tourist, and not working, they could deny entry.

I did a couple of these out and straight back in 30-day visa exempt entries earlier in the year, whilst waiting for my lawyer to sort another visa. There were no problems entering.

Be sure to have 20,000 Bahts cash with you when you arrive back. They didn't ask me to show it on either occasion but they have a right to deny entry if they ask you to show it and you don't have it. Showing a bank book is not sufficient, it actually needs to be cash already in your pocket. Give them one less reason to deny entry.

If they are being really awkward they can also ask you to have an ongoing flight booked out of Thailand within the 30 days. If they do this, you can get on your phone and book one-way ticket to the nearest destination (Air Asia good for this), accepting that you're gonna lose 1,000 to 2,000 Bahts or so. They are less likely to ask for this if you have only done the 30-day in and out a few times. If you have done it 3 or 4 times in a row, they may be more awkward.

Thank you for your answers!

Ubonjoe, thanks for the suggestion to get a 30 day extension. I was not aware this was possible for a visa exemption, as I thought the maximum extension period in that case is 7 days. Are you sure 30 days is possible for visa extension? The thai immigration site did not make me much wiser.

THanks again,

Jeroen

Yes, every visa exempt entry can be extended for an additional 30 day permission to stay at an immigration office.

Great, thanks, this safes me a lot of hassle.

Will the 30 extension days count from the day my visa exemption ends or from the day I get the extension?

The extension will take over when your current exemption expires ,if you go early they will just stamp 30 days extra from when your original exemption expires.

Day 1 of the 30 day extension is the day after the current permission to stay sends regardless of when you apply.

Spoke to a guy on a visa trip yesterday, has said his friend did a Singapore trip and flew back the same day, at DM he was refused entry

Sorry no idea of his past history

Did he know how far away they sent him?  IOW - only to his "passport-country" or was he allowed to book a trip anywhere?

He was Danish, I don't know where they sent him to, he was told not to try and re enter Thailand for a year

Sounds a little much but I can only go off what I was told

One not unlikely scenario is that he left clearing an overstay and then tried to fly back the same day. If he was that stupid, it is not surprising if immigration took the opportunity to blacklist him.

All the way to Singapore? Wow! I think Penang or KL is the quickest and cheapest option there is.

Only one extension per visa exempt entry is allowed. No immigration office will allow 2.

You can do a out/in to get another entry and apply for an extension of it.
