Commissioner-General reports on southern attacks

Jettana Pantana

BANGKOK, 12 August 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police has delivered an update of the recent attacks in Thailand’s southern region, reporting four deaths and 32 injured.

Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda delivered a press release after conferring with related agencies, stating that bomb and arson attacks had occurred in the provinces of Trang, Phuket, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phang Nga, Krabi and Surat Thani, resulting in four deaths and 32 injured. He said that authorities are currently examining footage for possible leads, but have yet to apprehend any suspects.

Pol Gen Chakthip himself surmised that the attacks were likely politically motivated, as the provinces affected by the bombings voted to accept the draft constitution. The attackers therefore may have held dissenting political opinions and wished to discredit the referendum’s results by attempting to incite instability and inflict economic damage to the region. He also believed that foreigners were not behind the attacks, but urged that the public await official conclusions.

Pol Gen Chakthip affirmed that an official statement will be made to the international community after a thorough investigation yields more concrete results.

I remember a "democratic" Thai politician speaking in Phuket. He said "You will get what you want when you vote for us". Yes, yes it was a democracy apparently.

Well the Phuket people didn't vote the way that the violent minority wanted so they got what they didn't want.

Lets hope footage uncovers some leads that will lead to apprehension of suspects quickly.

God speed.

We don't need more reports, we need safety.:coffee1:

They know nothing but...... :)

Heavily blinkered  and narrow vision in the invetigation. They already have the perpetrators in their mind and just need to build the case around them. A la Koh Tao.

Chakthip "...surmised that the attacks were likely politically motivated...but urged that the public await official conclusions...".

Yet another example of Thai "leadership's" inane inability to walk the talk!

For those who are unfamiliar with the area, the 6 provinces in question are shown in the map (can't help noticing their proximity to the restive southern provinces):
