rooster59 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Pattaya Defiant After Thailand Bomb Attacks by Albert Jack Thai Intelligence Services claimed, this morning, that they were aware of imminent attacks ahead of a series of bombings in southern Thailand over recent days. However they did not have precise information such as where or when these attacks may take place, what form they would come in or who might be behind them. Fortunately, apart from these trivial details, they were monitoring events closely. This morning we learned that improvised explosive devices and firebombs were used to attack ‘seven provinces of Thailand between Aug. 7 and Aug. 12,’ as Jaktip Chaijinda just told reporters in Bangkok. Pattaya stood defiant in the face of terror last night after Assistant District Chief Officer, Mr. Chanatpong Sriwiset, ordered the Candle Salute Ceremony, scheduled to take place at 4pm on Bali Hai Pier, to be moved instead to 5.30pm at Pattaya City Hall. The EOC, Medics and Rescue teams were standing by in case of emergency. Such swift and comprehensive action is crucial to the safety of Pattayians during these dangerous times. Meanwhile, in Walking Street, bars and entertainment venues opened as normal. Thais and tourists alike continued to party and told reporters they were not frightened as they placed their complete trust in the security services. ‘We know that they know who is a threat to us,’ one of them didn’t say. ‘Don’t worry, they have us covered. Enjoy yourself, spend some money.’ Full story: http://pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/230070/pattaya-indomitable-after-thailand-attacks/ -- © Copyright Pattaya One 2016-08-13

ezflip Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Another, reflecting the spirit of the whole city, insisted. ‘We are not frightened, we will not be driven away by terrorists. Not as long as we have people to overcharge.’ Got to love this quote
thai3 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Nothing will stop the sale of pussy and ass, medical and rescue teams standing by in case of emergency
NickJ Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 There could be a war in Vietnam and Pattaya would still be open......
NongKhaiKid Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Pattaya stood defiant, I didn't know they had been attacked. Isn't the story just a little OTT ? It's reassuring the intelligence services knew attacks would take place so who did they inform and were any warnings given ? It's seems No is the answer since the intelligence services knew they conveniently didn't know who, why , where or when so ' knowing ' is an easy claim to make after the fact. Over the years the US and Britain have sometimes been criticised for issuing warnings on ' credible but non-specific information ' whereas LoS waits until these bombings have taken place then announce they knew something was going to happen. I think the ' intelligence services ' apart from being an oxymoron needs a new name and new personnel.
Brer Fox Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 So they have "complete trust in the security services". The security services (presumably meaning the RTP and the army) can't even control and protect people from the unabashed ladyboys down on Beach Road. What hope have they got with secretive bombers lurking about?
Caveat Emptor Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 So the ' intelligence services ' knew , very convenient. At 0700 this morning i was sure of rain because it started at 0630 !
JHolmesJr Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I did not appreciate the sarcasm in the original article.
ezzra Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 " stand defiant " what is this? the belittle for the Alamo? or defending the city against marauding hoards of Mongols? nothing defiant here, just be vigil and alert and gather as much Intel as you can, and you might just avert catastrophe....

Pattaya28 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Hope they haven't missed anything else that "wasn't said" This article is comical, packed with nonsense.
Khon Kaen Dave Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Did anyone spot the oxymoron in the first page?
