With the new Visa Rules, is it reasonable to wait for the last day?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am on a tourist Visa. I would like to stay longer, so I plan to exit and reenter by land, or maybe make a new visa. I prefer to leave the country on the last day, but with the new Visa rules I'm afraid it might be too late. Is it reasonable to wait for the last day for leaving (either by land or by flight), or should I leave a day or more in advance for safety reasons?

Thanks in advance.

There are no new rules.

If you have multiple entry tourist visa you can leave and re-enter to get a new 60 day entry on the last day.

If a single entry tourist you could leave and re-enter by air to get a visa exempt entry on the last day. You will get 30 days by air or 15 days by land unless from a G7 country which would allow 30 days.

You can extend your 60 day tourist visa entry by 30 days at an immigration office.

If you go out and back for a visa exempt entry you can extend it for 30 days also.

It's almost never reasonable to wait to the last minute...what if some world/in-Thailand event occurs that causes a delays in plans....border crossing(s) are closed for some reason....you have an accident....just a whole variety of what-ifs that could occur.  But hey, up to you how close to the edge to live.   But in this case it's not like there is a major penalty if something delays exit by the 60th day unless caught on an overstay by authorities.

I think if caught on an overstay by authorities, it's preaty bad, isn't it? One year out of Thailand, or something like that, right?

If caught with an over stay of less than one year it can be a 5 year ban from entering the country. Over a year and it is 10 years.

No reports of a a person with a short overstay being banned yet. The decision will be made by a judge.
