Police Arrest Three over Riverside Murder

Featured Replies

Three suspects were arrested yesterday by municipal Military Police over the shooting death of a man at a mini-mart near Phnom Penh’s Night Market on Saturday night.  “The suspects are being temporarily detained at municipal Military Police headquarters in Phnom Penh,” Colonel Pou Davy, deputy commander of the capital’s Military Police, told Khmer Times by telephone yesterday.

“They are still being questioned by our military police experts,” he added, declining to speak in detail about the murder. Keo Veansa, an officer with the municipal Military Police, said that at about 9:15pm on Saturday night, a group of five men entered the Only You Mini-Mart on Sisowath Quay in Daun Penh district’s Phsar Kandal I commune, where they beat and shot a man dead who had been drinking beer alone in the mini-mart.

He added that the victim was 28-year-old Son Chandaroath, who worked at a real estate company in the capital. He was the cousin of film and karaoke star Khieu Soravy.   “According to witnesses, before the shooting, the victim was sitting alone and drinking beer in the mini-mart,” he said.
