Amnesty International urges members to demand release of two political activists

BANGKOK: -- London-based Amnesty International has urged its members throughout the world to send letters to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha urging him to put an end to criminal proceedings against and to unconditionally release two political activists held on charges of inciting unrest for having in their possession documents critical of the draft constitution.

In a statement, Amnesty International said the two suspects, Chatupat Boonpattharaksak, alias Pai Daodin, and Wasin Prommanee, both members of the New Democracy Movement, were arrested by police on August 6 after they distributed leaflets critical of the draft charter in Chaiyaphum province – one day ahead of the referendum on the draft charter.

Both were also charged with defying the government’s order for refusing to have their fingers printed after their arrest.

Wasin was granted bail on August 8 but Chatupat rejected the bail, claiming he was innocent and began his hunger strike since August 7 while he was detained at a prison in Phu Khieu district.

Amnesty International asked its members to write in their native languages or Thai urging General Prayut to order their immediate release without any conditions.

Requesting they write in their own language is good.

Means they will expose the mistreatment s .

This junta is beyond reasoning .

Sanctions must be imposed .

The prisons are filling with detainees that are basically there for not sharing their views.

Westerners for now are excempt ...but for how long?

This farce is Orwellian now.

Double speak and announcements that denies reality .

Bombings want affect tourism etc.

Choose another destination folks

No one at the junta can read Englisheeeee. But worth a try. :D

Ammnesty can send all the letters they want.

Nobody in government will read them or will even try to read them.

They just do not understand Thailand is all that will be said.
