Thailand placed at 62nd ranking in WEF’s network readiness index

BANGKOK: -- The World Economic Forum has placed Thailand at 62nd ranking in the network readiness index – up five places from the 67th ranking, said Information and Communications Technology Minister Uttama Sawanayont on Tuesday.

 

The improved ranking in network readiness index was conveyed to him by Mr Justin Wood, head of Asia Pacific and member of the executive committee of World Economic Forum Geneva during a courtesy call on Tuesday.

 

The new ranking which put Thailand in the third place in Asean after Singapore and Malaysia respectively was based on assessment in ten aspects which include political and regulatory environment, business and innovation environment, infrastructure, skills, individual usage, business usage, government usage, economic impacts and social impacts.

 

Out of the 4 subindex, Thailand was rated the best in the environment subindex and was placed at 54th ranking from 139 countries, said the minister.

 

The environment subindex gauges the friendliness of a country’s market and regulatory framework to support high levels of ICT uptake and the development of entrepreneurship and innovation prone conditions for maximizing the potential impacts of ICT in boosting competitiveness and wellbeing. It includes a total of 18 variables distributed into two pillars.
