webfact
Old TAT photos get in tourism authority's own photography contest - but how did it happen? Image: Daily News BANGKOK: -- Amateur photographers who entered a Tourism Authority of Thailand competition were shocked to find out that the rules had been flagrantly breached. Three of the finalists in the photography competition were photos that had previously appeared on a TAT website, reported Daily News. The rules for the completion were clear - the top thirty photos submitted would be chosen. They had to be taken in Phrae or Nan provinces between June 1st and the end of July. But when the thirty finalists were announced last week three of them were from the website of the TAT at "gotravel". There was one of a plant taken in 2013 and another of people enjoying the rapids on the Nam Wa river that was also old. A third also did not fulfil the criteria of the competition and was an old TAT photo. Photographers suspected foul play and asked how the pictures got to be selected. TAT quickly announced on Friday that the three offending snaps would be removed from the competition because they did not comply with the rules as had been pointed out by the irate photographers. This was confirmed on the TAT page @TATPhrae on Monday. But photographers were still cross asking why three more entries could not be added to give other people a chance to win the competition. And questions about how the pictures got to be selected were spreading online across various fan pages and social media. DM07
You mean the honorable TAT rigged their contest to paint Thailand in a better picture? Shocking!
farcanell
Not much different to rewards offered to apprehend criminals, being collected by police.... Is anyone really surprised. i would have preferred it if the story had come to light, AFTER TAT had given themselves the prizes.... Much funnier IMO. Just another example of the slip shod way tourism is run here. Tourism here is all smoke and mirrors and gimmicks but no hard money spent on upgrades to entice tourists and save attractions for future generations to benefit by. Kind of reminds me of all those western movie sets. When you peer behind the frontal facade there is nothing there. We live in a daily gratification world. Come tomorrow let the chips fall where they may.

waldroj
"... Photographers suspected foul play and asked how the pictures got to be selected..." Daily News couldn't have chosen a more apt photo to highlight "foul" play than the rafflesia flower from southern Thailand! It's the largest flower in the world (with a diameter up to 90cm), and it smells like rotten meat in order to attract flies for pollination. Just like the flower in this photograph, many would say that TAT is also one big stinker!
Brer Fox
If TAT lie and cheat about a relatively innocuous photo competition how on earth can anyone believe the serious stuff like tourist visitors numbers. A poor reflection on the Minister for Loopy Tourism Promotion Ideas.
