visa help for an idiot (me)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, i am new here and am probably posting in the wrong place or thread so i apologise in advance.

I and looking to spend 5 months in Thailand scuba diving and the visa system is confusing me. I am from the UK. i don't think i can apply for the multi entry visa as i will most likely not be able to get a letter from my employer here in the uk as i intend on resigning before i go. So my question is am i right in the following?

I apply for a single entry visa which will allow me 60 days, then have this extended by 30 days (if that's correct, can it be done right at the start or do i have to wait til the end of the 60 days)

That gives me 3 months, and then if i say went to burma and then returned to thailand i could get a 30 day visa exemption and the have that extended for 30 days. Giving me a total of 5 months.

I also read that if i leave thailand and visit a thai embassy in a nearby country i could apply for a second single entry visa which would effectively give me a total of 6 months using two single entry visas.

I find this whole visa and border runs a little confusing to say the least.

and last question, do i need to have a return flight booked? as i don't know where i will be going next

Thank you all in advance

Arrive with a single entry Tourist Visa.

During the last week or two extend it at Immigration by 30 days. 1,900 Baht fee.

A day before your 90 days ends you can leave the country and visit a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country and get another Tourist Visa and extend this again at Immigration.

You do not need a return flight as you have a Visa.

Leaving the country and returning without a Visa will get you 30 days which can be extended at Immigration by 30 days.

Eclipse is right. I would recommend going to Bali for a few days / one week. Lovely place, really helpful consulate in Denpasar and direct flights with AirAsia
