Asprin is known and sold in Thailand as Aspent and it's available at all pharmacies, try asking for Aspent.

Aspent is the name of the local (Thailand) produced Aspirin. It is an enteric Aspirin with a red color coating which causes it to pass through the stomach and dissolves in the lower intestines so as not to cause damage to the stomach lining as Aspirin can do when taking by the handful. It comes in 300 mg and 130 mg for babies and also for Daily Regimen.  The 300 mg come in a 1000 tablet container and cost Thai Baht 2 per tablet at the Pharmacy.

Note: Being enteric not dissolving in the stomach they take a while to counteract a headache or a hangover or any other pain relief.

Enjoy yourself in LOS.

Just drink plenty of water. Hangovers are normally the result of the alcohol causing dehydration.  But then how much do you drink, sounds like a fair bit given what you say.  Too much aspirin is not good for you, thins the blood. Ask a heart specialist or even your local GP.

Was wondering about that red coating. I just went to Faschino pharmacy on Pattaya Nua and the red 300 mg are just 1 baht/tab.

Just 2 to 4 glasses of wine is all I drink in a session. 3 is considered moderate.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned but you can buy Thai aspirin in little yellowish packs at mini marts for about 1 baht, i think you drink it in water, never tried them.  Has anyone tired them?  Results?

I am pretty sure there are also Thai herbal remedies for whatever ails you.

tried Fascino today, also no luck with Aspirin, they have Aspent, though. This, however, is coated and dissolves slowly as others pointed out already. Sales girl asked if I need it for headache, yes sure, what else would you need it for (being well aware of the heart attack patients...) Bad look from her, "this is not what it's there for".

:D

Told that Aspirine story to a friend of mine last night....he said ants produce salicylic acid and lo and behold in a selfless experiment he actually ate a couple of ants as hangover cure once and claimed it worked. So there you go! [emoji16]

according to my local pharmacist also Atifed (sp?) and some other drugs are off the shelves. She had no idea why but cannot reorder.

Actifed has pseudoephedrine as an active ingredient, the same ingredient as Sudafed.  Pseudoephedrine can be used in the production of crystal meth, hence is banned.  That said, I do think Actifed was available long after Sudafed was banned.

Actifed was/is the Cadillac of antihistamines but has not been available

over the counter for a few years now...

Those were the days - when we could buy pseudoephedrine over the counter here. It took care of cold symptoms like no other medicine ever could... and you felt energetic at the same time.

Actually most Thai do not use Aspirin as when it became linked to Reye's syndrome it was very high profile and totally pulled for an extended period.  It has never regained favor among most doctors (who blame it for any bleeding issues) and there is no advertising to promote among population.  Even when Aspirin is available I have often been told it is not by drug stores.  Ask for "baby Aspirin" and you get a look as if you are asking for Cyanide.

This Reye syndrome excuse is rubbish for the shortage..

Reye syndrome 90% of the cases are children and only one out of million children are affected...

The first detailed description of Reye syndrome was in 1963 byDouglas Reye.[4] Children are most commonly affected. It affects less than one in a million children a year.[1]

So about one out of 10 million adults are affected by Reye syndrome.

So if Thailand's population is 70 million..

Reye syndrome affects 7 adult people... Yes thats right 7 adult people in all of Thailand..

While aspirin helps millions of people in Thailand...

It was only temporary but if you made the mistake of asking for "baby" (low dose) most will not want to talk longer and just say they do not have.  There was also a severe shortage after the floods of 2011 and Aspent was made in a flooded area and out of production for a long time.
