Staying from now until December/January on tourist visas (also dual national)

Featured Replies

I was on a Round the World trip with my partner, who has had to return home until around Christmas to replenish funds and see family

I thought that Thailand would be a great spot to kick back and wait it out until the trip can be resumed. I can support myself with online work and perhaps the odd bit of tutoring.

I'm a dual national of two EU countries. I'm currently here on a visa exemption stamp. My plan is this...

Continue with my 30 days until mid September, then extend a further 30 days until mid October at the BKK Immigration Office

In mid October fly to Malaysia, Cambodia or Laos for a quick break and to apply for Single Entry Tourist Visa, once I have this return (probably by flight) to Thailand

Use the first 60 days of the visa, that takes us up to mid December, then finally a last 30 day extension which should cover the time until I can reunite with my partner elsewhere.

I just wanted to check the processes and what is required at both the Thai Immigration Extension Office and the Consulates that provide SETVs. i.e Do I need onward journey tickets? Trip itineraries or masses of Baht in cash?

Also wanted to check whether it would be worth switching my passports when I fly out and fly back in, or indeed if this would appear suspicious somehow.

I have quite a few Thai stamps in my passport already this year from the trip so far, in to Thailand, out to Myanmar, back to Thailand etc and just dread the idea of Thai immigration stopping and questioning me at the border

Thanks!

  • No need to switch your passports if entering with a visa.
  • What is required for an extension of stay will depend on where you apply. In Bangkok they will just need the application form, copies of passport pages, photo. Some offices require proof of where you live and or maybe a TM30 completed by the owner.
  • Penang, Malaysia and Vientiane/Savannakhet, Laos are the best options for the SETV and won't ask for a flights, itinerary or cash.
