Single Entry Non Immigrant O Visa

Featured Replies

Dear All ,

I work in thailand on a Non Immigrant Visa with Work permit both valid until October 2007.

My mother applied for a Non Immig visa (in Chicago) as my dependent. She got a Non Immig Visa O Single Entry. This visa only states that the date of entry should be before 29 Jan 2007. She entered Thailand on 11 November 2006 and the immigration stamped that she is admitted until 8 Feb 2007 (which obviously, is 90 days from the day of entry)

I want to know ..

  • how can i get her visa extended to match my expiry dates?
  • She has to leave Thailand between 20 January to 1 March 2007 for some personal work; Is it possible to get the extension for her visa before 20th jan or after she returns in March?

Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated..

Sid ..

Hi All, No suggestions as yet .. Even the visa experts seem to be confused by my question, i guess.. It will be of real help , if i can get any clue on this ..

Thanks .. Sid

No, she cannot get the extension before the expiry of her visa. She could get a re-entry permit, to keep her non-imm visa valid, but she would still need to apply for her extension on 8 Feb.

I had a similar problem when I had to leave for the US before my extension was to take place, I was told by Immigration to just let my visa expire, get a new non-imm at home and start the extension process over again, oddly enough, Feb 8, same as your mothers (I also arrived Nov 11).

So what you are saying is i let her visa expire .. and she takes all my papers etc and applies for a new Non-Immigrant visa when she is back home? .. hmmm that was i was thinking too ..

Annoying, but yes, that was the advice I got from lopburi3 and Samui immigration.

If she will be back in the US for the Jan-Mar trip then she is better off getting the non-imm there (again!) and starting over again, but, I am afraid, it still won't coincide with your oct bureaucratic visit.

Sid,

Sorry I had not seen your post. You were kind enough to send a private message to point this out.

Your Mom can get a extension of stay from Jan 8th up to the 20th Jan ( the day she leaves) with no problem. Just in the highly unlikely event, someone at Immigration says something about coming back later, take the plane ticket leaving on the 20th.

I surmise your mother is over 50 years old. If she is over 50, she qualifies under 7.19(5) of the Police Order.

She will need to have the

1. Application form

2. Copy of passport of your Mother

3. Copy of your passport

4. Copy of the work permit

4. Copy of documents showing the relationship such as the evidence of birth certificate and marriage certificate between your parents.

Hi SBA

Thanks for that reply. I will prepare the documents today and visit the immigration tomorrow or Monday. Actually, there is a slight change in her plans. She needs to leave in December now. December 22nd to be precise. Should i take the air ticket for 22nd Dec (return 7th March) to the immigration?

Thanks for your help..

Sid
