Keo Vy, spokesman for National Committee for Disaster Management, said that through late August, 92 people have been killed by lightning and 99 others have been injured. Over the same period last year, 64 were killed and 58 were injured. In Thailand and surrounding countries (especially Klang Valley in Malaysia) the average number of thunderstorm days per year is very high. Bangkok being around 87, with a high concentration of lightning strikes (as shown on the Isokeraunic Map) Current (no pun intended) best advice is to crouch down with both feet flat on the floor if you are unlucky enough to be caught in the open.
