I have been following this story for sometime.  It is such a relief for me to know that I'm not the biggest idiot in Thailand. I was in first place for several years.

Well, I look down on anybody who goes to social media and needs to constantly brag about how much money they're getting out of a relationship.  This isn't Nong Nat's first tweet about Harold giving her money and gifts.  

 

Yes, we all buy our wives gifts.  Most of us are probably the sole or primary earner in the family.  But there's a difference between that and someone who through their own obliviousness can't help but communicate that all they care about is money.  

There's a fine line (but it certainly exists) between narcissism and someone who feels the need to justify why they're with someone.  True social media brings out the narcissist in us all a bit but there's a difference between showing off to make people jealous of your lifestyle and saying, "I know he's old and unattractive but look at all the stuff I'm getting!"

What a load of total BS. (If that was even slightly true, there'd barely be any expats at all living in Thailand or Cambodia or the Philippines, etc.)

 

I had this conversation once with some army buddies while we were on a train in Germany. I'd sampled some of the wares that Hamburg had to offer during a recent outing.  Of the 4 of us, 3 were married (I was the only single guy). One guy expressed disgust at the idea of "paying for it". I noted that he was married and asked him when the last time he "got any" was (apparently it had been awhile since the last time). I told him the difference between him and I was that he was paying for it everyday of his life and rarely getting any, while I was getting it whenever I paid for it. (He had a glum look on his face after that.) I knew guys whose wives had total control over the money the man was making and were actually giving the husband a tiny allowance every two weeks to buy coffee and lunch at work. Meanwhile sex was only for "special occasions". Frik - I swear some of those married guys were lucky if they were getting "it" once a month ! Some were lucky and might get "it" once a week (3 times a month, maybe, depending on "Aunt Flo"). 

 

These 2 are married. The guy is paying for "it" no different than pretty much any guy in the West is doing, except that he's getting a porn star in return that is apparently looking after him. He can obviously afford it (or the next story we read will be about he ran out of money and "fell" off the balcony of a hi-rise condo). 

 

Seriously. Take "former porn star" out of the equation and this relationship is pretty much exactly like any other married relationship with some exceptions.

Hottie is taking care of and banging old guy who is paying the bills and giving her money to do whatever she wants with.

(OK, it's not quite like every other marriage. It seems she doesn't have control over the bank account, yet.)
