Thought I was meeting a normal girl....

The other day I was eating pizza at this restaurant by where I live. It's strictly a restaurant with alcohol. Sometimes they show sports.

A family was having a congratulations dinner for one of the members. I'm on the other side of the room minding my own business and eating my pizza. This drunk woman from the party starts talking to me. We exchange numbers and I don't think anymore of it.

Five days pass. She's joined WhatsApp and LINE to talk to me. She wants me to meet at a bar in a seedy area. I think it's weird but I guess it's okay because this woman has a normal job and a car.

I go to this bar. I "buy" her a couple of drinks. Plus I give a few to the girls there. She's friends with the bar owner. I think we had a couple rounds of whiskey, I had a beer, and the other girls had three or four drinks total.

I get the bill back and it's 1,810. I figure these people are padding the bill and trying to put a fast one on me. The girl who invited me is actually saying it's 2,300 because I ordered food across the street even though it hasn't come yet. I tell them I need to visit the ATM. They actually have a guy escort me with an umbrella. I'm walking up the street and the guy is telling me to use the ATM to the right. I point ahead saying I'll use the one out there. Finally he heads back without me.

Instead of going to the ATM I hail a cab in the pouring rain. I lay down in the back and I tell the driver where I want to go. He says 100 baht when normally it should really be half that. But I'm skipping out so I don't care. I just tell him "Go, go, go!"

He takes me home and I pay him. This "normal girl" that I met is ringing my LINE, WhatsApp, and my phone number. I just tell her "Hey, you guys are trying to pull a fast one on me. I don't need people who just treat me like an ATM." Then I block her.

It feels good. This has happened so many times in the past and I've just paid. But this time I didn't. <deleted> them. Seriously. I feel quite a rush.

So are ALL Thai women total gold diggers? Even the ones who dress professionally and have normal jobs? <removed>

Actually I think now you have a problem. Because you not paid for things which you ordered.

So when they see you again they can call police which will be a bigger problem for you.. Hope you never go this area or see this girl again!

That's a restaurant.

This is a type of bar that is notorious for trying to cheat their customers and add extra stuff on your bill.

Think about it.

1 Beer
4 Whiskey for normal customer. I say normal because this girl might try to claim lady drinks even though she doesn't work for the bar.

2 lady drinks 3 max
Some type of Isan food that I never even got

Does that equal 2300 baht?

I'm more than willing try pay my bill but when people are padding and trying cheat me I have no problem walking away.

The "normal" girl is saying the bar owner wants to take me to the police. If that's the case I'll go to Tourist Police and accuse them of adding more to the bill than I ordered.

This shit happens all the time. I'll open a tab and they'll just start putting things on regardless if I really ordered it. I've seen my friends get 3000 baht tabs with no clue why it's so high. I bet I'm not the first customer to take issue with this.

I don't know if the story is complete or even true, one thing for certain though is that if ever those people see you again, anywhere, even in fifty years time, they will remember you - Thai's are like that, really. BTW the police wont care/

Never let a thai bird take you to her friends bar...its almost always a set up

And pay as you drink, then there are no surprise bills at the end.

2,300bht isn't a lot, was it really worth potential trouble in the future?

You (by your own admission) ordered the drinks and the food. You can ask "how much" before ordering.

Caveat emptor.

Skipping without paying a bill in Thailand is a very dangerous practice. And police etc would come down on you like a ton of bricks.

Can the cops really do anything? If I have to go to the police I'm going to say they padded the bill.

You didn't pay.

That is theft - period.

Funny story evilchris...

This is not you skipping out as there were others there drinking also responsible to pay.
You think any bar would let your date walk away without paying the tab ?

You said you blocked her...so a little surprising she can still message you.

Can you really be this naive or just playing it up?

Can cops do anything? well not much, just charge you with theft, put you through the court system and should you be the lucky one end up in jail

You will tell them, they padded the bill? great idea, because no doubt they will believe a foreigner who skipped paying the entire bill over a business owner, which most likely pays donations monthly

Reading stories like this, makes it very clear why so many Thai people think foreigners are compete and utter idiots

Anyone who has been around know Thais LOVE putting extra shit on the bill in an effort to take advantage of you while drunk.

I know some of you TV posters are <deleted> and will just be trolls. So I'm going to take your advice with a grain of salt.

Hopefully this just means that I can't go back there anymore.

Ok, not trying to be funny, but I think it has something to do with you.

may be try not to speak or wear a mask or sunglasses.

i have never had my bill padded and if there was some error it was fixed without a problem or a scene.

you do of course know and realize from your extensive knowledge and experience with thai people that bars have different prices?

some bars do charge more for drinks than others and some in BKK charge as much as 450 for a beer.

Also not too sure what village or trailer park you came from but it is NOT a custom to bring outside food or drinks into a place where you are.

I was sitting in a popular bar in Chang Mai a few weeks back, when a guy selling fish and chips cruised by. I bought some, and when I sat back down at my table the 'bar girl' brought over a plate, fork and spoon for me to eat it with.

His topics are always like this, whether it's daft questions about looking for teaching jobs or stupid generalizations about Thai women.

Moral of the story here, OP, is that all Thai women are not gold diggers, but you entertaining the thought says everything about how you create your own stupid mistakes.

Really? You just fell off a Christmas Tree and think Thai cops are going to care when you tell them their countrymen padded a bill so you ran away as a thief?

Prime example of how to become cynical and make gross generalizations about a people, by blundering through life blaming everyone else for your own silly mistakes. It's how trouble has a tendency to find you when it's really down to your own decisions and attitude towards others.

"They are all scammers, therefore I will steal from them..." Well that sure was a bright idea. :w00t:

If there are 4 customers in a bar with a joint bill and one of them leaves, I don't see haw he can be called a thief. There were still 3 others at the table with the ability to pay.

Except he walked into a situation (he is the ATM) with his eyes open (questioning why a 'normal' girl takes him to a 'seedy' place). He should have accepted he was paying the bill or made it clear he wanted the ladies to contribute.

Tradition is, person who invites pays, so in theory the girl should have paid, if she's pretending not to be a hooker.
