Can you advise me on my visa plans ?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

My wife and I are in our 50s and from UK. We have been travelling long-term for the last couple of years including a couple of visits to Thailand.

We are coming back for a planned six month stay very soon,  but I am wondering if our planned visa applications will work out.

This is our history from last 12 months:

1 month stay = 30 day VOA in Jan-Feb

1 month stay = 30 day VOA in Feb-Mar

2 month stay = 60 day tourist visa May - July

This is what we now want to do from Sept to Feb

3 month stay on a 60 day tourist visa (issued in Bali) with a 30 day extension

Then go to Penang for a few days and get another 60 day tourist visa, return to Thailand and get a  30 day extension on that one.

Having read a few posts recently I am now a bit worried in case we can't get a new visa in Penang or fall foul at immigration.

Can anyone give me an idea if this is likely to be OK ?

Cheers

You will not have a problem getting a tourist visa in Penang.

You will also have no problems with immigration.

Your plans are fine and you should have no problem getting the SETV's from Bali and Penang. Immigration are more concerned with overuse of the visa exempt scheme so as long as you have a visa you should have no problems with immigration.

Thanks very much, that's  great to know.

Just one further question is regarding getting the Tourist Visa in Penang -... the Sticky about getting visas in neighbouring countries HERE indicates that Penang wont issue a new tourist visa to anyone who has previously extended a tourist visa .... Does this still apply ? because it will scupper my plans !

Getting the extension will not effect you getting the visa in Penang. They stopped doing that long ago.

No that doesn't apply.

The only rule they reportedly have is that they will only issue 3 SETV's to the same person. They don't count visas issued elsewhere so as this will be your first from Penang you should have no problem.

The last reports I recall from people applying in Penang who had been in the country for several months prior, indicated that a significant extra fee to the agent was being requested.  Has this additional scrutiny/cost been discontinued, and things returned to the previous-normal?

Answered in this earlier post. That out of date topic has been removed from the pinned topic where you found it.
