Shuttle boat service on Klong Phadung Krungkasem to begin next  month

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok people will now have an option to travel from the inner zone of the capital to destinations located on the left bank of the Chao Phraya River faster with no traffic jams after Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is now set to begin the first 5-km long shuttle boat service next month from Bangkok Railway Station or Hua Lampong to Thewet Pier in Dusit Area.

 

The normal bus service from Hua Lampong to Thewet is time consuming as it has to pass several roads and areas which has traffic problems, particularly during rush hours.

 

But with the boat service in place, the time will be less than 30 minutes.

 

The original intention of the opening of boat service on this ancient man-made canal is to boost tourism as the Dusit Area is where several significant buildings, including the Government House, the Parliament, the Chitralada Royal Palace, located.

 

According to the NNT reported, Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday that the new boat service will begin next month on the Klong Phadung Krungkasem canal from Hua Lamphong to Thewet Pier covering a total distance of five kilometres in response to Prime Minster Prayut Chan-o-cha’s wish to lessen Bangkok’s traffic jams.

 

He said in the initial phase of the canal development project, a new pier named Thewarat Kunchorn will be constructed in to accommodate a growing number of passengers.

 

Four boats belonging to BMA’s Department of Drainage and Sewerage will be used on the canal to transport passengers who need to get to Thewet Pier from Hua Lamphong railway station.

 

The second phase of the development project will include landscaping and improvement work on the river bank area, canal dredging and the introduction of more boats to service boat passengers.
