snoop1130
New Pedestrian Overpass for Hua Hin’s Market Village The mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul has met with officials and local people to consider the building of a pedestrian overpass in front of Hua Hin Market Village shopping mall. The General Manager of Hua Hin Market Village, Mr. Amornthep Aummeephien and the staff of the shopping mall provided information about the need and possibilities which may see the building of the new overpass. The current dangers posed for pedestrians crossing the road in this location are apparent with a number of serious incidents being reported. Apart from the density of the traffic and passengers disembarking from public transport vehicles, hazards also relate to vehicles attempting to make U-turns with the uncertainty created by nearby temporary lane markings. Another hazard relates to driver behaviour at pedestrian crossings. Courteous drivers who have stopped to give way to pedestrians on the crossing have reported near misses as vehicles in other lanes do not stop or reduce their speed. This has meant that pedestrians stepping past a stopped vehicle become vulnerable to those who do not recognise the crossing. In more recent times, traffic controllers have been deployed to avert this danger outside Market Village. This is a concern at a number of other locations on Petchakasim Road with fading road markings adding to the problem. geriatrickid
It would be more cost effective and beneficial to install traffic lights. The traffic could use some forced slowing as too many people speed on that road. Properly synchronized traffic lights can and do work. Thailand just doesn't see the need for them and the carnage in fromnt of Market Village and especially on Beach road in Patong attest to this. monkey4u
Good luck getting people to use the overpass Most will just cross the road as before, like with most other pedestrian overpasses just a waste of money
clifric
geriatrickid - the traffic lights outside the Bangkok Hospital are largely ignored, in particular by tuk-tuks and scooter riders. What happens next month when the new shopping mall opens? When I lived in Hua Hin I had several close shaves on my scooter when 'farangs' crossed in front of while looking in the wrong direction - most European and American countries drive on the right so warning look right/left signs at crossings and traffic lights might help
